Totally Random Friday – Jan 9th

Hi! Did you miss me? I missed you. Had a great Christmas but now on the other side, it really hits me how truly crazy the season is. Shopping, wrapping, preparing food, remembering other people you should have added to your list, shopping again, wrapping more, eating food, shopping again, even more wrapping and attending parties. So much fun but I’m glad it’s only once per year!

January is one of my favourite months since it’s my birthday month! I am definitely one of those people who celebrate their birthdays for about a week or so. This year, I am super excited because my husband and I are headed (with my SIL and her husband) to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!! I am so pumped! It’s supposedly to celebrate my husband’s birthday (he’s turning 35 and never been on a hot vacation) but we leave the day after my birthday so…. it’s really my our birthday present. Well, on to the randomness!

1. David’s Tea has launched a new line for the new year and I’m really excited to try a bunch of the flavours.

I’m all about black teas (except Earl Grey – bleh!) and fruity teas so this collection definitely speaks to me.

2. Courtney from La Belle Sirene shared on her Instagram that Target is having a spring collab with Lilly Pulitzer.

Lilly Pulitzer founded her namesake line in sunny Palm Beach, Fla., in 1959, introducing a new genre of fashion – American resort wear – that to this day celebrates bold individuality and encourages women everywhere to embrace colour and fearlessness in every area of their lives.

Lilly Pulitzer for Target features 15 lively and modern prints inspired by archival artwork across 250 items, including apparel, shoes and accessories for women and girls, home goods and cosmetics. The collection ranges in price from $2-$150, and will be available exclusively at all Target stores in the U.S. and Canada beginning April 19.

Looking forward to the sneak peeks of what I’m sure will be a very interesting collection!

3. Banana Republic has come out with a new line of denim for 2015:

The four different fits come in a variety of washes and colours with the Skinny Ankle, Skinny and Legging styles in mid-rise and the Boyfriend style in low-rise. They range in price from $110 – 124. I’ll probably try these on next time I’m in BR but they don’t seem earth shattering enough for me to run-down-there-this-instance. I’ll let you know what I think.

4. And finally, I want to leave you with some pics from my Instagram (in case you don’t follow me)

How was your Christmas? Happy Shopping!

Target and Toms Collaboration

Sorry folks, no TRF again this week. It’s just been busy and I really haven’t been buying anything. Let’s cross our fingers for next week.

I do have for you, however, a new Target collaboration, Target and Toms. Seriously, my love for Target is growing with each passing collaboration.

Building on Toms’ slogan, One for One, the collaboration will continue to give items to people in need for each item of clothing or pair or shoes or home décor it sells.

But don’t worry, if you buy a phone case, they don’t give a phone case to someone in need. Each item for sale clearly identifies what is given in turn: one week of meals, one blanket or one pair of shoes.

And the collection is very reasonably priced with items starting at $10 up to $48.

This collection will be for sale in Targets across Canada on Nov 16, 2014.

What items are on your wishlist? Happy Shopping!

Altuzarra for Target

Target has another great collaboration capsule collection coming out on September 14, 2014. You’ll remember my love for the Sarah Stevenson collection and the Peter Pilotto collection. This collection is a collaboration with Altuzarra.

Here are five of my favourite looks from 14 posted on the website:

altuzarra1 altuzarra2 altuzarra3 altuzarra4 altuzarra5

So gorgeous! Unlike the other  two collections, this one will also include shoes and belts and the entire collection is affordably priced at $30 – 80.

Interestingly enough, it seems like a different collection is being released in American Targets. See that collection at Refinery21.

What do you think? Any need-to-have pieces? Happy Shopping!

Mixing and matching patterns

I got a request to do a post on mixing and matching patterns. I can see how that would be pretty daunting. What’s the line between chic and ick?

I think the best way to wear patterns this season is a simple, three-pronged approach: pattern, colour (contrasting or matching, depending on your level of comfort) and a neutral.

Here I’ve done a polka dot blouse (pattern) with green denim (colour) and a black jacket (neutral).

Here’s one from last summer where I did a striped t-shirt (pattern) with pink denim (colour) and a denim jacket (neutral).

If you are more daring and want to mix it up, mix a bold pattern and a more subtle one. And they should have something in common. Maybe a colour or a texture. Unfortunately it’s not an exact science.

This dress from Peter Pilotto for Target is a good example of mixing patterns.

This outfit from Banana Republic is a great example of mixing greens and textures.

Or keep one pattern in your clothing and add another in your accessories.

Here I’ve done Sarah Stevenson for Target jacket with black t-shirt and pants but mixed in some lace booties.

Whichever way you choose to mix, whether daring or subtle, be confident about your choices! Confidence in what you are wearing will make people stop and stare (in a good way). Any questions? Email me at or leave me a comment.

Totally Random Friday – March 7

So, I’m pretty proud of myself this week. Not only did I post three times, I’ve actually been posting in the morning so you could read them during the day. Like, this post, you’ll actually be able to read it on Friday, March 7th as opposed to being posted in the evening and read on Saturday. Okay, I’ll try not to wrench my arm patting myself on the back. Lol

This week was pretty busy. Did some shopping on Saturday, both with a client and then with my daughter. Sadly, shopping is the only exercise she gets when it has been as cold as it has. Definitely looking forward to the warmer weather and maybe some tobogganing and walks.

Here are a few things I bought or found this week:

Here are the three pieces I purchased from Peter Pilotto for Target:

Long sleeve T-shirt for a client

This dress actually ended up going back. While I loved the print, I didn’t find the cut very flattering.

And this geometric shell.  (pants from Banana Republic, jacket from Rickis, shoes Nine West and necklace from ParaMix)

Sarah Stevenson is the next designer to do a designer capsule collection at Target. Here are a few of my favourite looks.

She says she is heavily influenced by florals. Could I have found my new designer soul-mate?? Collection is unveiled March 23rd. See the whole thing here.

Found this black lace Joe Fresh t-shirt when I ran into Superstore to get diapers. Love being able to buy clothing with my groceries!

catchingfireAnybody else pumped to buy Catching Fire today? I have to say that while I loved the first movie, the second one truly blew me away. I can’t wait to see the third and fourth movies (based on the third book) coming out in Nov 2014 and Nov 2015 respectively.

For my birthday (yes, that was over six weeks ago) my husband purchased the Ellie Goulding album Halcyon Days. I am totally loving it. In fact, all three of us have become pretty big Ellie fans. My daughter stops what she is doing and starts dancing when she hears Lights, Burn, or I Need Your Love (we are also Calvin Harris fans). And I loop the album (it’s pretty big) when I’m blogging and it’s mellow enough for evening but upbeat enough to keep me grooving while I search for links and upload pictures.

How was your week? Are you enjoying the warmer temps and the snow dump? What did you buy? Leave me a comment. Happy Shopping!

Totally Random Friday – Feb 28th

So apparently I’m not  the only blogger taking a break from regular posts during this long, harsh winter. Several of the blogs I read (including this one and this one ) normally update twice per week or more and are currently doing once per week or way less. I thought that would make me feel better (as in, hey, you aren’t the only lazy person sitting on the couch after your kid goes to bed and watching Netflix instead of blogging) but instead it made me feel sad for readers, like they have less to read now. So, get your glass, let’s toast to more regular posts! Cheers!

Went to Toronto last week. Here are some pics:

I bought the Joe Fresh silver ballet flats that I posted about here. They are super cute. If you are thinking about ordering them on the website, they are quite short in the length (as in, my heel was hanging over) and I ended up going up a whole size.

We went to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada. Both Daughter and I totally enjoyed it and I would highly recommend if you are in the area to check it out.

Here is my darling carrying her favourite baby and a small shopping bag from Hudson’s Bay holding shiny lilac jeans and a cute blue and white polka dot t-shirt with a sequin Peter Pan collar. Yes, it is just as cute as it sounds and I will post some pics soon.

Um… so how did I miss the Target  launch of their collection with Peter Pilotto? I was reading my March magazines and found ads that said it arrived Feb 9th, 2014. FEB 9TH?? That was like three weeks ago? (I am also a little behind in my reading.) I follow Target on Facebook and as far as I can tell they didn’t post it at all! Anyways, the collection looks awesome, check it out here. I’m going to my local Target on the weekend to see if they got it. I’ll let you know.

I’ve changed my Instagram account to @tlcshoppingwpg. Feel free to follow me and ask me to follow you back. Have a great weekend and Happy Shopping!
