Totally Random Friday – Oct 9

Hey folks. I love doing the Fashion Fridays lately but I thought I’d change it up this week with a Totally Random Friday post. I’ve been seeing some cool things for sale and with Christmas less than three¬†months away, we should all start putting together our lists. Santa, start taking notes!

  1. Kate Spade bedding: The queen of bold colours in simple styles has added a new bedding collection. The colourful but classy pieces can be found on the website here.

2. All the 80s girls will remember Jem and the Holograms. With the live-action movie set to debut on Oct 23, Sephora has announced a makeup collection including an eyeshadow palette, a lipgloss set, a lipstick and a compact. This limited edition collection has no official release date yet but I’ll be sure to let you know. I definitely need this lipgloss set and the lipstick. Check out the rest of the sneak peek at Temptalia.

3. Black, black and black seem to be the top three choices of colours for winter jackets so I applaud Banana Republic for putting out this¬†mint coloured one. While I don’t think it would be any match for Winnipeg winters, it would be nice to have a second coat for nice(r) winter days.

4. I did this post a few weeks ago about which wraps I was loving from the fall Jamberry catalogue. Well since then, they’ve added two glow-in-the-dark wraps to their Halloween collection. The one posted below is Glowing Ghouls.(Psst, keep your eyes peeled for some special Jamberry news being posted soon!)

5. Disney has released it’s Fairytale Designer Collection which is clearly aimed at adult Disney suckers like me. The elegant items include clothing, mugs, bags and four sets of limited edition dolls priced at $140CDN per set.

Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub Review

If you only have time to read the first paragraph of this post, I can boil down this review into two words: AH-MAZING!

IMG_7004.JPG

I love a good face scrub. Not the pansy ones with microbeads made for daily exfoliation. A hard core scrub with warnings on the label about using it more than a couple of times per week! So the Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub is exactly what I was looking for.

IMG_7003.JPG

According to Sephora’s website:

What it is:
Nothing heightens the skin’s natural metabolic processes better than this densely textured, smooth gliding, and terrifically energizing face scrub. Activated with water, it foams up to scour away dead, tired skin cells, while literally vacuuming up impurities. Excellent for all skin types.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

They didn’t have a sampler open at Sephora when I went to buy the scrub. I was concerned about not liking it but the sales girl had me smell some other Ole Henriksen products, assuring me it was mildly scented. She was wrong. So wrong. It smells (wonderfully) of cherries or cherry blossoms. The scent is not overwhelming but calling it a mild scent is optimistic at best. Luckily, I love the scent so that was not an issue for me.

IMG_7005.JPG

At the size of 1.7oz, this container seems small but you only need a nickel size dollop to generously cover your face. At this rate, and the fact that I only use it once per week, this scrub is likely to last me forever. Or at least until I’m sick of it and want to try something else.

IMG_7007.JPG

I probably spend 1 Р3 minutes rubbing it all over my face and then a couple of minutes rinsing it off. Afterwards, my skin feels amazingly butter-smooth. I dry it off and layer Biotherm AquaSource Deep Serum over it to help lock in moisture.

IMG_7011.JPG

Yes, my skin is a tiny bit red after using this but since I moisturize well and only exfoliate before bedtime, my skin has a chance to breathe afterwards and I haven’t had an problems.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub for anyone wanting a deep, weekly exfoliation.

Sephora Favorites: Draw the Line Review

I just received my VIB membership earlier this month from Sephora and with it comes a 10% off coupon. You know me and coupons… that baby was burning a hole in my pocket so I headed to Sephora yesterday and picked up the Sephora Favorites: Draw the Line eyeliner sampler and¬†Ole Henriksen¬†Walnut Complexion Scrub (which is amazing – review to come soon!).

IMG_6947.JPG

I recently ran out of liquid eyeliner and while pencils are ok, they are not my favourite. With this package, I could try out two new liquid eyeliners and four pencils, all of which I’ve never tried before but heard good things about.

IMG_6949.JPG

Sephora’s website says:

What it is:
An essential, multi-branded eyeliner kit with six coveted liners.

What it does:
Flick, layer, sweep, or smudge on liner looks with this set‚Äôs liquid or pencil formulas. This must-have eyeliner features six eyeliners‚ÄĒincluding three full-size liners‚ÄĒfor a number of eye looks. This eyeliner set lets you explore a selection of Sephora‚Äôs bestselling brands and formulas, including Kat Von D‚Äôs Deluxe Tattoo liner in Trooper, a liquid black liner with a brush allows for precise pigmented application; a deluxe Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear in Black; a full-size Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Sumatra; a full-size stila smudgestick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray; a full-size of tarte‚Äôs lights, camera lashes precision longwear eyeliner in Black and a deluxe, 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Vice.

IMG_6954.JPGSo, the swatches from L-R are: Stila Cosmetics Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray; Tarte lights, camera lashes precision longwear eyeliner in Black; Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper; Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear in Black Lace; Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Vice; and Smashbox Cosmetics Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Sumatra.

All of the liners went on very smoothly and came off easily with Julep Bare Face cleansing oil (my makeup remover of choice). I was surprised, however, at the grayness of the Kat Von D liner (third from the left). I had always gotten the impression that this one was the best and the blackest and yet it seemed a little washed out when swatched next to the others. It did seem to have the best control out of all of them and as you can see, it was the thinnest line. I loved the tarte liner immediately. It was extremely black and the tip was flick-y and I could tell it would make an amazing cat-eye.

Tarte liner

Sephora quotes the box as a value of $106. I did the math (cuz I’m a geek like that) and came up with $107.50, so I’m glad that the value isn’t too far off. If you were to buy each of these liners in full size, it would be $132 plus taxes, so even though only three of the products are full size, the others are a decent size. At $36, I think this is an amazing value and am super glad I picked this up.

Have you tried any of these liners? I’d love to hear about your experience. Happy Shopping!

June Wishlist

The late emergence of summer is bad for retail but good for consumers. Many retailers are having their June sale and blowing out their summer stuff (which to be quite honest, we can just barely wear here in Winnipeg).

My wishlist this month is mostly all about the makeup! As you’ve read, Rebekah and I have been on a no-buy this month and that has been good for us, me especially, forcing me to use what I have instead of moving on to the next pretty thing. It also has me drooling over several products and (not-so) patiently waiting for July 1 so I can run to the store and buy everything on this list! So without further ado, here are the things I’m hot for this month:

1. Lashstash to Go

 s1608983-main-Lhero

This set from Sephora contains 5 samples of mascara: Too Faced Cosmetics Better Than Sex Mascara;¬†Lanc√īme HYPN√ĒSE DRAMA Mascara;¬†Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara;¬†Blinc Inc. Blinc Mascara;¬†Bare Minerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara in Intense Black; and a¬†voucher for full-size featured mascara for the bargain price of $30. I do have one makeup purchase allowed during the no-buy. This may be it.

2. OPI & Coca-Cola collaboration

OPIcoke

At first I was only really eyeing up one or two of the polishes. Then I read reviews at The Polishaholic, Kalyn Lord and Julie from Swatch and Review and now I need them all. NailPolishCanada has the mini set for $26 and it includes minis of Nail Envy and topcoat, which would be perfect for my desk.

3. Sharon Osbourne and Kelly Osbourne collab with MAC

MTY302At first I didn’t really care about this collab¬† too much but I’ve been eyeing up the Nars Matte Lip Pencils¬†and now that MAC has some, I’ve gotta try them.

4. Indie Polish

Since being introduced to independent polish makers through reading blogs like Chalkboard Nails and Storms and Stars and I have fallen in love with the following:

Botany Plants Lately from Dr. Lacquer. Did you see the flower shaped glitter? Amazing!

IMG_3360_400w

Fairy Flurries by Jaded Nail Co. This one changes colour when it gets cold and glows in the dark. Ummm… how fricken amazing is that?!

What are you looking forward to or have on your wishlist? Makeup? Clothing? Something else? Let me know. Happy Shopping!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

Hey dear readers! I am so sorry for the lack of posts for the last couple of weeks. It has been ridiculous at my house as everyone got that cold that was going around immediately followed by that stomach bug that was going around. I had more sick days last week than I had in the previous month. Luckily it was spring break and nobody missed too much.

s1394717-main-LheroHere’s a quick post reviewing the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe. I picked this up at Sephora last week. It’s a little pricey at $27 but came highly recommended from the girl at Sephora as well as some beauty bloggers I follow on Instagram (@rebeccashoremua and¬†@ssssamanthaa). I had been using the eye brow pencil from MAC but was a little upset that it kept breaking so I decided to try something else.

So here are my before and after shots. I love the depth and fullness it gives to my brows. What do you think? What brow products are you using? Happy Shopping!
