Sample Killah – Week 4

The last week of Sample Killah. Luckily it went way better than last week. I was aiming for no samples at the end of this, I mean, I only started with 25ish or so. But some of the deluxe samples slowed me and then there was camping which meant no beauty routine at all. And a couple of hair serums that I hated and couldn’t continue using. Anyways, at the end of this all, I have a toothpaste folie and a hair serum sample (which will totally end up in the garbage, stupid hair serum making my hair so oily).

I’m including my Lancôme Genifique serum even though I started it way before the beginning of July, it got killed during the month so I figure that’s a win. Who knew such a small bottle was going to last FOREVER. (it is a totally amazing product by the way, love it!)

Did not enjoy the Nexxus shampoo, conditioner and primer. Whatever… you win some, you lose some.

The 3D Whitestrip 2 Hour strip was fine to wear and did make my teeth whiter. But about 6 hours later, my teeth hurt. Not to eat or drink, just in general. I definitely won’t be doing that again. The toothpaste is great though, will definitely be buying some of that.

The Nivea body lotion was very perfume-y. The John Frieda hair serum made my hair very oily. The L’Oreal Youth Code Pore Vanisher worked great and if I didn’t already have the Julep Blank Canvas Mattifying Face Primer, I would probably buy some. And the Julep Glycolic Hand Scrub was awesome. Definitely putting that on my wish list.

Total kill sample this week: 10

Total kill sample for the entire month: 33

Overall, this has been great fun.  Thanks to Kalyn for thinking this up and offering a prize at the end of it all. Good luck to everyone to entered. Already looking forward to next year. Happy Shopping!

Sample Killah Week Two

So seriously, it was a pathetic sample-killing week. Up until this morning I mostly worked on one set of shampoo samples and Crest Whitestrips. I did the Eslor Comforting face mask and despite my glowing reviews about their products last week, this mask gave me a headache and made my face breakout.

This morning, spurred on by Kalyn Lord’s Week Two Update, I quickly whipped through the Desert Essence Organics Baby Lotion, which I realized after I smeared it all over one leg that it contained orange peel – an allergy for me – and that I needed to wash all the lotion off. I then decided that I might as well shave my legs while I was washing them and finished off the Vidal Sassoon conditioner. Then I took the last Jergens Natural Glow lotion sample and smeared that all on. Stripy ankles are way better than eczema from orange peel. I then wet my hair and used all of the John Frieda Calming Creme, which worked really well. If I get my hair permed again I’ll be looking at purchasing more of this line.

So, I have a few things left but I seriously doubt I’m going to be doing anything interesting the fourth week. Mostly all that’s left is Crest Whitestrip toothpaste and the Whitestrips that take two hours (who has two hours during the day where they aren’t going to eat or drink??)

Samples killed: 10

Sample Killah Week One

So I totally love this “contest”. (I put it in quotes because it’s not really a contest but there is a prize). I had a great time reading Kalyn’s post about her samples killed this week. 100 – can you believe it?? That’s amazing. I don’t even have half that many samples and most of them are deluxe-sized so burning through them has been somewhat tedious but here’s what I’ve gotten through this week.

Here’s the Eslor skin care samples that came in the Summer Luxe Box. These are amazing. The exfoliating mask was awesome and the cleanser was great but the Soothing Cream. OMGoodness!! I need this in my life. At $78 this item will probably go on my Christmas/Birthday wishlists. Seriously tho, amazing. The whole line. I loved it all and am kind of saving the last sample, a comfort mask.

Jergens Natural Glow moisturizing tanner. I’m pretty sure these came in the SampleSource box. There’s 3 and you are supposed to use Day one, then day two and day three. Except… I’m super fair and they sent me the Medium/Dark colour. So for me it’s been more like: Friday, day one sample; wait two days; Monday, day two sample. I’ll probably put the day 3 sample on sometime this weekend. I want it to be somewhat believeable. Kalyn’s major complaint was about stripey, orange ankles – yep, know exactly what she’s talking about. It’s not too noticeably unless you wear capris, which I did yesterday. It seems to highlight the stripey, orange ankles. Overall it works good though and I would probably buy it at some point, just in a lighter colour.

So I think I killed about 8 samples this week. I did put a dent into some deluxe samples so I hope I will get to include them in next week’s count.

You can still enter into the Sample Killah giveaway. Head over to this post on Kalyn’s blog for all the details.

Kalyn Lord’s #samplekillah

I’ve mentioned before how much I love Kalyn Lord’s biting wit and honest makeup reviews. Join me in entering her Sample Killah contest. During the month of July she challenges us all to use up the many, many samples that we’ve accumulated over the year.

Sadly I did a big bathroom clean last month and threw away a bunch of samples. I also have a sneaking suspicion that my husband threw away a bunch too cuz this is all I have right now:

Seriously, not much. I was even looking forward to the sample that I would get with my Sephora purchase the other day and the clerk gave me men’s fragrance. Talk about a let down!

Lucky for me it doesn’t matter how many samples you have during the challenge, just that you have some and you use them up.

How many samples do you have? Are you entering Kalyn Lord’s #samplekillah? Happy Shopping!
