Hey folks! I’m back! And I’m kicking off 2018 with #30daysoflipstick. Rules and day 1 featuring the Huda Beauty Winter Solstice Lip Strobe Collection. Happy Shopping!
I love Bite Beauty lipsticks. The handmade, Canadian lip products are a great luxury item, in my opinion. They smell amazing, they slide on easily with full-coverage and are made of food and food-grade products. What’s not to love?
But I have to admit that I was skeptical of the Multistick they released in the fall. One product that works equally well on lips, cheeks and eyelids? Seems too good to be true. Here is my first impression of the multistick, which I picked up in Biscotti.
Bite Beauty Multistick in Biscotti (Note: Sephora’s website describes this colour as “deep, muted mauve”)
Other products used in my look:
Duochrome, shiny, shimmery highlighters have stolen my heart so I was actually proud of myself that I only picked up two of the MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish powder highlighters: Soft Focus and Show Gold. I hope you enjoy my review. Happy Shopping!
Tarte 12 HR Amazonian Blush in Paarty (Sephora’s limited edition birthday gift)
Tarte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit (Sephora’s limited edition birthday gift)
Hey folks, sorry for the lack of action around here lately. EVERYONE has been sick at my house with some cold or another plus we ALL got PINKEYE! UGH! I am the last one to have it and it really can’t go away fast enough.
Anyways, last weekend was the perfect weekend to hibernate and rejuvenate. I took some time on Sunday night to do a face mask and
hide hang out in the bathtub.
The face mask was actually a peel that I had received in my last Sephora order. It was a promo for when you made a $25 purchase, you received three full systems for free! Well, you know how much I love free stuff. Obviously, I was in! POWER Peel™ PRO-strength Microdermabrasion/AHA Peel
A popular treatment at Ole Henriksen’s skin clinic, this microdermabrasion and acid peel system dramatically retexturizes to visibly reduce fine lines, smooth skin texture, even skintone, diminish discoloration, and minimizes pores for instant renewed youthful radiance in three simple steps.
The face mask/peel comes in a slim envelope with pouches clearly marked with 1, 2 and 3, outlining the multiple steps.
The first step is an almond polish. It’s fairly gritty and you rub it all over your face for 2-3 minutes.
Here you can see the large almond seeds in the cleanser.
And here is the scrub on my face.
Rinse that off and on to Step 2:
The lemon strip step definitely tingled, especially where I had rubbed the almond scrub around my nose.
This was more of a clear gel-like substance. It smelled citrus-y but not overpowering.
This is with the lemon peel on. You can see my face is kind of red from the almond scrub. This step is left alone for 2 minutes and then you add Step 3.
Step 3: the chamomile mask is applied directly on top of Step 2: lemon peel.
This looks exactly the way you think the last step of a mask would look: like heavy lotion.
I slathered every last particle of this step on to my face. It’s still burning a bit at this point… but it stopped about 5 minutes later and was very relaxing after that. That’s when I climbed in the bath.
The last step is supposed to linger for about 15 minutes and then you can rinse your face.
I forgot to take after pictures but I remember my skin feeling somewhat tight, so I did layer on some Julep What Your Skin Needs before bed to help with moisture, which is extra important during the drying winter. Overall, I enjoyed this product. I have two more mask/treatments left and I will probably let my mom try one and see what she thinks.
Have you tried this product? What’s your favourite face mask/peel? Happy Shopping!
Yes, another video. I am so excited to share this one with you, it’s my best video yet!
Today I am talking about the new It’s Balm Lip Crayon colours from Julep (and yes, I do have a small rant about the product’s name change).
The lip crayons reminded me a lot of other lip balms. You had to do a few swipes to get some decent colour payoff and needed to be reapplied in an hour or two. On the flip side, I felt comfortable applying without a mirror since I wasn’t concerned with getting it all over my face like I am with some lipsticks. The smell is pleasant, kind of a sweet, vanilla-cake smell but can get a little cloying after awhile.
From top to bottom, left to right: Apricot Nude, Dusty Orchid, Nectar Pink and Ripe Raspberry.
Overall, I like this product. Now that I’ve tried a few more colours, I would probably be willing to try more. I mention in the video how much I hate Aurora Pink creme and that has deterred me from trying more, which really isn’t fair since the colour just simply doesn’t go with my skin tone, no other reason.

For those of you who are already Julep Mavens, they’ve release the sneak peek of the February Maven box and this month, they are featuring the Julep Eyeshadow 101. Watch my review of that beauty product here.
Have you tried It’s Balm? Does this review make you want to add an It’s Balm onto your next Julep box? I’d love to hear your thoughts. If you’d like to sign up for Julep, feel free to use my referral code here.
With the craziness of Christmas and Mexico, I keep forgetting about my Winter Luxe Box. So now I’ve had it over a month and I still haven’t tried all the products AND I’ve given some away. Saying that, overall I was very happy with the products this month and the value on my box.
So here’s a breakdown of the products:
Profoundly Purple NICOLE BY OPI
Sample Size: $3.99 / 3.75 ml
This deep eggplant has soulful beauty. Nicole by OPI puts salon quality at your fingertips…from the colorful world of OPI.
I never get tired of purple nail polish. I’m sure I have a dupe in my collection for this colour but that didn’t dampen my excitement on getting another one. I’m getting enough minis that I should put them in my desk at work for emergency manicure situations. This one ended up going to my mother. She loves vampy purples even more than I do!
Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser SUKI SKINCARE
Sample Size: $10.95 / 30 ml
the suki® difference: : our soft sugar crystals (sanding sugar) provide both granular & AHA cell renewal without tearing skin. granules melt into skin to help lift toxins & dead cells for safe & effective deep cleansing.
solution: helps smooth & even skin tone, reducing the appearance of dull, dry skin build-up, signs of most blemishes & flare-ups. addresses aging concerns & jumpstarts collagen production while rejuvenating the complexion.
This sample size was perfect to take to Mexico with me. It smelled great and was an excellent exfoliator and face wash. Slightly oily after but very mild, not greasy.
Eyelash Curler LOOSE BUTTON
Retail Value: $20.00 / Full Size
Give your lashes their biggest curl and best volume ever with our Loose Button eyelash curler.
I like that the Luxe Box includes a Loose Button tool. Last quarter, the fan brush was one of the few redeeming qualities of the box. But I’m not big on an eyelash curler. I’ll keep it and I might try it again but it’s not going to be a go-to tool.
Ruby Murray Moisture Matte Lipstick BUTTER LONDON
Retail Value: $25.00 / Full Size
HOW TO USE
Full coverage, ultimate colour payoff in a velvety matte finish. Specialized pigments extend colour wear. Long-lasting, non-drying formula does not feather or bleed. Revolutionary gel-capsule technology delivers colour and moisture for smooth, silky application and maximum comfort. Triple Butter Complex is used for rich, creamy, lasting moisture – Mango Seed Butter, Murumuru Seed Butter, and Cupuacu Seed Butter
I chose not to upgrade to the full size for an extra $10. I did like the sample but probably not enough to buy it. The matte finish was nice and the colour was long-lasting but I found it to be drying and I wanted to put on lipgloss after about an hour. Flattering colour though.
Hydro Cool Firming Face Gels for Smile Lines SKYN ICELAND
Sample Value: $8.75 / 2 Gel Patches
Turn back the clock by visibly filling in smile lines for up to 24 hours, with this intensive weekly treatment that delivers instant wrinkle erasing results–without a needle in sight. In just ten minutes, these peptide-packed transdermal patches infuse deep facial creases with a concentrated dose of line-plumping ingredients to firm, tone and flatten expression lines you have, while preventing future ones from forming.
I put these on one night while watching Gilmore Girls (again, on Season 6 now).
Obviously I look dead sexy. It was a neat product but I didn’t really notice any difference in my laugh lines after one use. Maybe with multiple uses but at $35 for 8 patches, it’s unlikely I will be purchasing this product.
Lip Crayon BURT’S BEES®
Retail Value: $9.99 / Full Size
Introducing six creamy, full-coverage shades of matte lip color in a modern crayon. Lightweight moisture for a comfortable, everyday wear formula infused with Shea Butter, Kendi Oil, and Jojoba Oil. It’s color that truly cares for your lips!
*Creamy matte color and moisture-rich wear *For everyday wear either alone or layered under a Lip Gloss or Lip Shine *Precise application in a playful form without the hassle and mess of sharpening *No added flavor or fragrance *Hydrates and moisturizes lips, leaving them feeling soft and smooth
I loved the pencil. It was soft and creamy and went on well. And then I would wipe it off because the colour wasn’t right for me. Luckily I have a friend who I knew it would look amazing on, so I gave it to her. I’ll have to pick up another colour now that they are released in stores. (Read Julie from Swatch and Review’s post on all six colours here)
Perk Up Dry Shampoo AMIKA
Sample Value: $10.00 / 30 ml
Freshen dirty hair, create extra volume, and extend your beautiful blowout with a touch of amika’s Perk Up Dry Shampoo. The only dry shampoo on the market with no aluminum and no talc, once you try it you’ll never go back to your old stuff.
I love dry shampoo. I’ve found ones that I liked better than others but none that I’ve hated, so this product is a win for me. This is one of the nicest smelling dry shampoos that I’ve used. And it’s a very light formula. There’s also no white powder finish that there traditionally is with dry shampoo. I will definitely be buying this.
Clinical KP Treatment Cloths PAULA’S CHOICE
Sample Size: $14.00 / 10 cloths
Wipe your KP woes away. And banish “bacne”, too. These easy-to-use keratosis pilaris wipes get rid of those little red bumps (aka chicken skin) and reveal smooth, even skin anywhere on the body.
Treats keratosis pilaris, acne breakouts, and redness
I have those bumps on the back of my arms… at least I thought I did until I went to look and realized they aren’t there anymore. Then I wondered about two things: (1) when did they go away? and (2) when was the last time I looked at the back of my arms?? Now not sure what to do with these… I’ll check the backs of my friends’ arms and see if anyone else can use them.
According to this, that puts my Winter Luxe box value around $80 CAD, which is pretty good. I paid $26 plus taxes, which comes to $29.12.
Sorry for the number of pics from the Luxe Box website. I gave some things away before I took pictures of them. And it’s so dark in the evenings that the few pics I took aren’t that great anyways. I promise to do better!
If you are interested in signing up for Luxe Box, I would love it if you would use my referral link here. Next quarter they are promising Benefit products, I’m really looking forward to that! Happy Shopping!
Mascara review #10. And I’m pretty sure I’ve said this 10 times: WHO NAMES THESE PRODUCTS??? What a mouthful. So here today, I’m here to talk about the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Intenza mascara. I know there are two more to go after this but I’m going to ruin the surprise – this is the only L’Oreal mascara that I review in this series. Honestly, I am totally suckered in by cute packaging and bright colours. And L’Oreal is a big dud on both of those. The Voluminous Miss Manga one is pretty cute but I’ve already read/watched several reviews on that one and I didn’t want to be repeating (too much).
On to the pictures:
This one was good. It did what it was supposed to but it didn’t blow my socks off.
It has this cool poison-dart-looking head on the mascara wand. It was neat and gimmicky but as far as I could tell, it didn’t actually make a difference.
So….. ya. Two more mascaras to go and neither really blow my socks off either. I feel like so far, I have a clear first and second place mascaras that I loved during this year and then there’s like 6 that fit squarely into the “Nice” category. Not great but not bad. I was really hoping for more range of Love and Hate but whatever.
I’m sorry that we’re into 2015 and I still have two more mascaras to go. I have no excuses, just a general sense of ennui that is hanging around. I’m trying to beat if off with a big stick so any cheerleading skills you can muster up would be most appreciated.
Anyone else so distracted by my crazy eyebrows that they aren’t even looking at the mascara? Happy Shopping!
Wow! This mascara is truly amazing. I seriously can’t get over how much it it lengthens lashes and never clumps. I know you think I’m kidding, but I’m totally serious. And your lashes stay relatively soft all day for putting on something that is designed to harden them.
I actually even wore this mascara all day and then was going out that night, so I just layered more on. And it looked even better. And I didn’t need a lash comb or eyelash curler to make it look more awesome. It just did.
Love, love, love this mascara and HIGHLY recommend it! Unless some L’Oreal mascara blows me away in the next few weeks, this mascara might be my favourite out of the 12. It is that amazing. If you haven’t tried it yet, head to the drugstore now and pick some up! Happy Shopping!
So, first of all I want to apologize for the lack of posts for the last two weeks. It’s been a crazy time for me personally and professionally and I really needed to take a break.
So, back to business as usual. This week is Mascara Review #7 (are you counting the weeks left? There’s 7.5, not including this one, so you’ll read about a lot of mascara in the next few weeks.) and it’s featuring Covergirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast mascara in Very Black.
The brilliant two-step Bombshell Boost System combines extreme volume with an intensifying top coat for big, sexy bombshell lashes. Step One: Apply the extreme volume basecoat. Step Two: Finish with the intensifying top coat.
I hated this mascara. I wore it three times to do this review and every single time, I didm’t like it.
You can see that it has pretty reasonable length and volume but I just didn’t like it and I really had to nail down the reasons why.
1. Two step mascara means more time to my already busy morning routine. And even with two steps, this mascara seemed pretty comparable to a couple of others that I have. So, Covergirl, just figure out how to get this great volume and length in ONE STEP.
Here is a picture of my lashes with just Step 1:
Not bad, you could probably just stop there and be fine. But, my complaints don’t end there.
2. My lashes were hard all day. Now, they have two to four coats of mascara on them, I don’t expect them to be soft but it was so annoying that I found myself poking at the lashes over the day. And fiddling with your makeup during a meeting is never a good thing. It was almost like they had hairspray on them, you know, that kind of hard.
Overall, I do not recommend this mascara. There are much better, or at the very least equal, products that do the same job and you don’t have to fiddle around with two wands. It also pisses me off that they have obviously placed falsies on Katy Perry in all the ads for this mascara. And yes, I know they do for all mascaras but this one really, really burns for some reasons.
Try any new mascaras that you loved? Or tried this one? What did you think? Happy Shopping!
Look at this, mascara review #6! Woot woot! This week, I have Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Washable Mascara in Classic Black. (Who names these mascaras?? I have to go to Maybelline’s website each time to figure out the name because I can’t tell from the actual product itself!)
As you’ll recall, I hated Maybelline’s The Rocket mascara. And as much as I hated that one, I LOVE this one.
From the first time you use it, it does everything exactly the way it’s supposed to. It lengthens, darkens, adds to and plumps up your lashes in a way that I almost didn’t believe I’d bought this at the drug store. For $9, it was competing very well against mascaras I’ve used that are $30 or more.
I highly, highly recommend this one. It lasts all day with no flaking or raccoon eyes and layers well for that va-va-voom-going-out look.
Six more drugstore mascara reviews to go! Any you would like to see? Happy Shopping!
