5 Minute Face #3

Hey folks, sorry I missed my usual day of posting yesterday. Let’s blame it on taking extra time off for my birthday. ūüôā

Anyways, today I have my third 5 Minute Face for you. And it’s styled in my favourite colour: purple! I wanted to show that you can have a bright look in under 5 minutes as well.

Hope you like the purple look. Would love to hear from you, please leave me a comment. Happy Shopping!

Mani Monday – April Julep Maven box

Happy Monday! Today I have for you my April Julep Maven box.

IMG_6061.JPG

I ended up going with the Classic with a Twist box which included Jenna (orange) and Connie (purple) with the Lock Down Your Brows eyebrow gel. I then added on Randi (pink), Addison (yellow) and 3 emery boards (not shown) and got the lipgloss shown (no longer available) for buying three add-ons.

Honestly, I wasn’t crazy about trying the brow powder that was the feature beauty product last month. I use and love Anastasia Dipbrow and am not interested in trying anything else.

So, instead of just swatching, I decided to do some nail art as well.

IMG_6086.JPG

First of all, I used Randi (pink) and Connie (purple) for a base coat. Randi is super smooth and wonderfully opaque in two coats. Connie is a little streaky and semi-translucent after two coats. I dotted on China Glaze Snow in a star formation and then added Addison (yellow) on Randi and Jenna (orange) on Connie in the middle and randomly around the flowers.

A couple of days later I did this dotticure using (L to R): OPI’s Just Groovy [no longer available], Julep Jenna, Randi, Leah and Addison. I used China Glaze Snow for the dots again. Addison (yellow) is surprisingly opaque after two coats as is Jenna (orange). Both had great consistency and went on easily.

Here is my Cinderella hand, proving that (occasionally) I paint both hands to match.

Overall, I am very happy with my April box. The colours are bright and fun, perfect for summer and the brow gel will make a great gift for a friend.

Mani Monday – China Glaze Don’t Honk Your Thorn and Julep Flora and Leah

IMG_4698.JPG

So apparently I’m hooked on dotticures this month. I had a great time putting this one together using China Glaze Don’t Honk Your Thorn from the City Flourish collection that came out this past spring. This isn’t normally a colour I would buy at all. My mom bought it and it doesn’t go with her skin tone so I got it. Isn’t it great when that happens?

IMG_4695.JPG

This is actually a gorgeous nude colour though with just a bit of shimmer, hardly noticeable at all but adds interest to the colour, imo.

IMG_4697.JPG

Then I took a dotting tool and added large dots of both Julep Leah (green) and Julep Flora (purple) and then added small dots around those. Then topped with a thick coat of Seche Vite, which is my go-to, favourite top coat.

Mani Monday – Julep Avni & Clio glitter gradient

I paint my nails all the time and hardly ever talk about it on my blog. So here’s a quick post about my current mani. I just received my August Julep box last week and all the colours I got were gorgeous. Rich with some shimmer and shifting colours but not too overt. Rich jewel tones, which are some of my favourite colours.

IMG_4575.JPG

I decided to go with the royal purple colour, called Avni, even though it’s still summer and I really should be cherishing all the pastels and bright colours that will soon be relegated to the back of my nail polish box. Two coats got me a fantastic base and then I added Julep Clio as a glitter gradient. (You may have noticed, I’m kind of a nut for gradients.)

The first two pics are taken near a window and the third is using indoor lighting. Apologies for the blurriness of the third, the pictures just looked more blue near the window and I wanted to capture the purple shift.

Julep Lip Vernis

So, originally I had no intention of reviewing the Julep lip vernis. I got Zinnia (no longer available on the website) in a mystery box back in May sometime and I wasn’t thrilled about the box. It was a good value but the polishes were clearly fall colours and none of them appealed to me. This lip gloss got chucked into my nail polish box¬†and just got¬†put it into my purse this week.

So, I slapped it on my lips this am while walking out to the door and OH.. MY… GOODNESS! It was creamy, sheer and smooth and… not sticky. I’m so not kidding. I am a MAC junkie and I have tried all their glosses and tints and lip glasses and I am just used to the sticky. It’s prevalent . A not sticky lipgloss… this totally blew my mind. To top it all off it smells delicious like vanilla birthday cake. While this isn’t a colour I would have normally chosen for myself I do like it alot, mostly due to the sheerness of it.

Have you tried Julep Lip Vernis? How does is compare to their gloss? Happy Shopping!

Smashbox Spring Edit palette

Hey folks, a couple of weeks ago I picked up the Smashbox Spring Edit palette and here’s some of my thoughts about it.

20140624-102122-37282018.jpg

While I really love the palette, I’m going to start with a couple of complaints. One, it doesn’t come with any brushes. The sales lady at Shoppers made the comment that it would be perfect for travelling when I bought it¬†but you still need to pack brushes so, it isn’t.

Secondly, it has a magnetic closure which is fine if it’s just sitting in the makeup drawer but if you use it for travelling then you want something that’s not going to come open in your suitcase/purse.

Here’s two eyeshadow looks that I’ve created with the palette:

20140624-102123-37283683.jpg

This one I used the pink in the inner third, the gray in the middle third and the purple on the outer third. (liner is MAC Fluidline in Avenue)

20140624-103631-38191872.jpg

Here the pink is the inner half and the gray is the outer half. I used the purple smudged underneath my lower lashes.(Again, liner is MAC Fluidline in Avenue – it’s my go-to fav)

Just a couple of comments about the colours. They are all highly pigmented and go on really well. The light pink colour is more of a peach but is still really gorgeous. On to lip colours:

20140624-103631-38191143.jpg

This is the Panoramic Pink Lip Enhancing Gloss. It mostly just added alot of shine, not really any colour. Good, smaller size, easy to throw into your purse. [On a side note, I never really noticed that my lip is not symmetrical until today. Weird, eh? I assure you, I am not sneering.]

20140624-103630-38190915.jpg

This is the Inspiration lip colour. It looks like a mess because I couldn’t find my lip brush and had to smear it on with my finger. Again, a brush in the palette would’ve been handy. It is a pretty, bright pink, slightly on the matte side.

20140624-103630-38190687.jpg

And here’s Inspiration with the Panoramix Pink Lip Enhancing Gloss over it. I like the shine that it adds.

20140624-103630-38190460.jpg

This is the Primrose lipstick. It’s a nice peachy nude that’s also slightly on the matte side.

20140624-103630-38190229.jpg

Here’s Primrose¬†with the Panoramix Pink Lip Enhancing Gloss over it. This is my favourite colour combo. A little bit of colour but shiny and not overwhelming. I think I’ll be wearing this quite a bit.

Overall, I really like this palette and will probably be using it alot over the summer. I’ll let you know if I actually pack it when I leave the city, it will probably mostly stay in my makeup drawer.

Happy Shopping!

Totally Random Friday – June 6th

This week went by really fast and was kinda boring. Not too much to talk about on the fashion/makeup front.

So here’s a round-up of my Instagram photos in case you missed them.

Apparently this week should’ve been called “42 Ways to Wear Your Denim Jacket”

20140606-145020-53420372.jpg

Denim Jacket (bought at a yard sale last summer, no specific brand), DKNY Jeans top and purple graffiti jeggings and Joe Fresh silver ballet flats.

20140606-145019-53419336.jpg

Denim Jacket with Banana Republic Sloan Dress in black and Clarks sandals (from last year). Belt from Zellers and necklace from Aldo.

20140606-145021-53421010.jpg

Denim Jacket with Joe Fresh t-shirt with flower details, Gap Jeans in Peach and necklace from Lia Sophia. I am also wearing Birkenstocks but they got cut off in editing.

Okay, so maybe it’s not 42 ways but I sure wore it a lot this week. I think a nice denim jacket is a great neutral for spring and summer. If you don’t have one, I suggest you get one. And right now it’s easy as they are everywhere. If you aren’t a big fan of the cropped one (like I have above) grab one that hits you at the hip but definitely not any longer.

Some nail art:

20140606-145150-53510681.jpg

Two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in¬†Barracuda¬†and then using the painted gradient technique (by the lovely Chalkboard Nails) gradually paint three coats of Serum No 5 Laven-Daringly Bright (which glows in the dark) and top with two coats of Quo by Orly Pink Matte (sorry, I couldn’t find any link for this). Loved this mani and it wore well for two days.

Totally Random Friday – May 2

Hi Shoppers! Feels like it’s been a boring week.

lav-endureI bought this polish last Friday and have worn it by itself for three straight days since I love it so much and I only have one tiny chip on my thumb that isn’t bothering me.

purplepants

Must be a lilac week because I picked up these jeans at The Style Bar. Totally love them except for the fact that they are super low-rise and I am a short person so they definitely won’t work for everyone.

Wardrobe Wednesday did not work out this week but let’s cross our fingers for next week.

maymaven

Patiently waiting for my Plie Wand and May Maven box from Julep. It just shipped so it will be awhile before it comes. Loving alot of the colours from this month but I managed to restrain myself to just four: Paulette (pink one fourth from the left), Laree (far left), Jules (second from the left) and Kam (gree one). And the Plie Wand Creativity Kit. Julep is a monthly subscription box with new colours and products every month for $20. Want to sign up? Feel free to use my referral link here. Your first box is free using the coupon code FREEBOX.

flaremanipedi

I purchased even more nail polish through the Topbox Limited Edition Flare Mani-Pedi Kit. For $25 you get a subscription to Flare (which worked out perfectly as mine just expired, value: $15 per year), six Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes ($9-10 each retail), Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser & Balm (~$7), Sally Hansen Dry & Go Drops (~$8)¬†and a nail file. Great value!¬†¬†They also have a LouLou one that I’m hemming and hawing on as my LouLou subscription just ran out too. Topbox is another box subscription service that costs $12 per month. I haven’t signed up for this one as the reviews are kind of all over the place. Some love it, some don’t.

Even though my daughter is only 20 months (read: just over a year and a half) we are going to start potty training next week. I have the 3 Day Potty Training book and am planning on training next Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So there definitely won’t be any Totally Random Friday next week. I’m choosing to do it early because she shows almost all signs of readiness and I would really like it to be done before summer comes.

What have you bought this week? Any plans for Mother’s Day on May 11th? Happy Shopping!
