Julep It’s Balm First Impression

Yes, another video. I am so excited to share this one with you, it’s my best video yet!

Today I am talking about the new It’s Balm Lip Crayon colours from Julep (and yes, I do have a small rant about the product’s name change).

The lip crayons reminded me a lot of other lip balms. You had to do a few swipes to get some decent colour payoff and needed to be reapplied in an hour or two. On the flip side, I felt comfortable applying without a mirror since I wasn’t concerned with getting it all over my face like I am with some lipsticks. The smell is pleasant, kind of a sweet, vanilla-cake smell but can get a little cloying after awhile.

From top to bottom, left to right: Apricot Nude, Dusty Orchid, Nectar Pink and Ripe Raspberry.

Overall, I like this product. Now that I’ve tried a few more colours, I would probably be willing to try more. I mention in the video how much I hate Aurora Pink creme and that has deterred me from trying more, which really isn’t fair since the colour just simply doesn’t go with my skin tone, no other reason.

Mani Monday – April Julep Maven box

Happy Monday! Today I have for you my April Julep Maven box.

IMG_6061.JPG

I ended up going with the Classic with a Twist box which included Jenna (orange) and Connie (purple) with the Lock Down Your Brows eyebrow gel. I then added on Randi (pink), Addison (yellow) and 3 emery boards (not shown) and got the lipgloss shown (no longer available) for buying three add-ons.

Honestly, I wasn’t crazy about trying the brow powder that was the feature beauty product last month. I use and love Anastasia Dipbrow and am not interested in trying anything else.

So, instead of just swatching, I decided to do some nail art as well.

IMG_6086.JPG

First of all, I used Randi (pink) and Connie (purple) for a base coat. Randi is super smooth and wonderfully opaque in two coats. Connie is a little streaky and semi-translucent after two coats. I dotted on China Glaze Snow in a star formation and then added Addison (yellow) on Randi and Jenna (orange) on Connie in the middle and randomly around the flowers.

A couple of days later I did this dotticure using (L to R): OPI’s Just Groovy [no longer available], Julep Jenna, Randi, Leah and Addison. I used China Glaze Snow for the dots again. Addison (yellow) is surprisingly opaque after two coats as is Jenna (orange). Both had great consistency and went on easily.

Here is my Cinderella hand, proving that (occasionally) I paint both hands to match.

Overall, I am very happy with my April box. The colours are bright and fun, perfect for summer and the brow gel will make a great gift for a friend.

Joe Fresh Florals

Hi folks! I’m back from Mexico and ready to jump back into life and blogging. I was definitely taking a break for most of December and January. But the day are starting to get longer and the sun (and Vitamin D!) I got in Mexico revitalized me so I’m ready to get back to work. 🙂

I’m sure it’s not shock to anyone who’s been reading the blog for awhile but I love florals. So I am super pumped to pick up some pieces from the new collection from Joe Fresh.

JoefloralsFeb2015

From left to right: Flower Tee White ($16); Floral Blouse ($24); Smocked Shoulder Tee ($19); and Floral Pumps ($69)

Mani Monday – Sept 29

I feel terrible that I haven’t updated in almost 10 days. Last week everyone in my house was sick and nothing got done. Not house work, hardly any cooking (we ordered out a lot), we all had at least one sick day (I had two) and definitely no blogging. It was terrible. Oh well, it’s over and I’m looking forward to more regular blogging schedule!

IMG_4801.JPG

Today I have this gorgeous mani. I used two new (to me) Julep polishes: Fifi (tea time pink crème) and Candace (golden chocolate microglitter).

IMG_4802.JPG

This is one of my favourite manis in awhile. I love the contrast of the baby pink of Fifi against the luxuriousness of Candace. I think I will be doing more of these non-traditional match-ups.

IMG_4805.JPG

Here I tried to show you the microglitter, which only seems to really show up when the photos are blurry.

What’s on your nails this week?

Mani Monday – Julep Daria and OPI Divine Swine

IMG_4646.JPG

Hey folks! This week’s Mani Monday is using some older colours. I got Julep Daria in a mystery box awhile back and while it’s not a colour I would’ve picked myself I think it’s going to be one that I use semi-regularly during the fall/winter. It’s a really nice dark gray that goes on opaque in two coats with no streaking. It also has a purple undertone to it in daylight.

IMG_4644.JPG

OPI Divine Swine I bought ages ago. Like the first time The Muppets did a collab with OPI for the first Muppet’s movie remake. I was surprised when I typed it in Google and then found it on NailPolishCanada.com. I love the small pink glitter and the larger silver glitter. I’ve used it before and really love the effect it gives.

IMG_4643.JPG

I also found The PolishAholic’s post about this collection. I think she was right about posting about the patchiness of the glitters. This one definitely makes a better topper than a stand-alone polish.

Smashbox Spring Edit palette

Hey folks, a couple of weeks ago I picked up the Smashbox Spring Edit palette and here’s some of my thoughts about it.

20140624-102122-37282018.jpg

While I really love the palette, I’m going to start with a couple of complaints. One, it doesn’t come with any brushes. The sales lady at Shoppers made the comment that it would be perfect for travelling when I bought it but you still need to pack brushes so, it isn’t.

Secondly, it has a magnetic closure which is fine if it’s just sitting in the makeup drawer but if you use it for travelling then you want something that’s not going to come open in your suitcase/purse.

Here’s two eyeshadow looks that I’ve created with the palette:

20140624-102123-37283683.jpg

This one I used the pink in the inner third, the gray in the middle third and the purple on the outer third. (liner is MAC Fluidline in Avenue)

20140624-103631-38191872.jpg

Here the pink is the inner half and the gray is the outer half. I used the purple smudged underneath my lower lashes.(Again, liner is MAC Fluidline in Avenue – it’s my go-to fav)

Just a couple of comments about the colours. They are all highly pigmented and go on really well. The light pink colour is more of a peach but is still really gorgeous. On to lip colours:

20140624-103631-38191143.jpg

This is the Panoramic Pink Lip Enhancing Gloss. It mostly just added alot of shine, not really any colour. Good, smaller size, easy to throw into your purse. [On a side note, I never really noticed that my lip is not symmetrical until today. Weird, eh? I assure you, I am not sneering.]

20140624-103630-38190915.jpg

This is the Inspiration lip colour. It looks like a mess because I couldn’t find my lip brush and had to smear it on with my finger. Again, a brush in the palette would’ve been handy. It is a pretty, bright pink, slightly on the matte side.

20140624-103630-38190687.jpg

And here’s Inspiration with the Panoramix Pink Lip Enhancing Gloss over it. I like the shine that it adds.

20140624-103630-38190460.jpg

This is the Primrose lipstick. It’s a nice peachy nude that’s also slightly on the matte side.

20140624-103630-38190229.jpg

Here’s Primrose with the Panoramix Pink Lip Enhancing Gloss over it. This is my favourite colour combo. A little bit of colour but shiny and not overwhelming. I think I’ll be wearing this quite a bit.

Overall, I really like this palette and will probably be using it alot over the summer. I’ll let you know if I actually pack it when I leave the city, it will probably mostly stay in my makeup drawer.

Spring showers bring spring flowers

Hey party people! I hope it’s thawing and warming up out there for all of you. The weather is getting nicer around here and all that awful white stuff is slowly slipping away down the drains. And you know what that means – Florals! I am a huge fan of this pattern genre and I am looking forward to incorporating them into my outfit each and every day.

Here’s some of my favs.

Mixing and matching patterns

I got a request to do a post on mixing and matching patterns. I can see how that would be pretty daunting. What’s the line between chic and ick?

I think the best way to wear patterns this season is a simple, three-pronged approach: pattern, colour (contrasting or matching, depending on your level of comfort) and a neutral.

20140325-221445.jpg

Here I’ve done a polka dot blouse (pattern) with green denim (colour) and a black jacket (neutral).

20140325-221617.jpg

Here’s one from last summer where I did a striped t-shirt (pattern) with pink denim (colour) and a denim jacket (neutral).

If you are more daring and want to mix it up, mix a bold pattern and a more subtle one. And they should have something in common. Maybe a colour or a texture. Unfortunately it’s not an exact science.

20140325-221508.jpg

This dress from Peter Pilotto for Target is a good example of mixing patterns.

lwrenlaceblazer

This outfit from Banana Republic is a great example of mixing greens and textures.

Or keep one pattern in your clothing and add another in your accessories.

20140325-221428.jpg

Here I’ve done Sarah Stevenson for Target jacket with black t-shirt and pants but mixed in some lace booties.

Whichever way you choose to mix, whether daring or subtle, be confident about your choices! Confidence in what you are wearing will make people stop and stare (in a good way). Any questions? Email me at tiffany@tlcshopping.ca or leave me a comment.

Keds and Kate Spade

I love collaborations. As I type this I’m wearing one of Sarah Stevenson’s pieces for Target. And Prom Queen blush from the Veronica and Betty collection that MAC did a couple of seasons ago.

28 Days of Eyeshadow – Day 13

First of all, apologies. Today’s pictures aren’t the greatest. The cloud cover made for lousy lighting for pictures and I was forced to use artificial light. Nevermind that some day I will be organized to use something other than my iPhone to take photos for my blog….

So, today’s look is courtesy of the MAC Wonder Woman Collection from a couple of years ago. It included three beautiful pinks and one gorgeous burgundy. I topped off the look with some pink Fluidline that was part of a limited edition collection from last year.

MAC Fluidline in Feminine Edge

As you may have noticed, I tend to buy makeup from MAC’s many limited edition collections and collaborations. My daily blush is from their Betty & Veronica collection. My favourite lipgloss has Maleficient on it from their Disney Villians collection. Wonder Woman, Barbie, Hello Kitty and several others have all had their kick at the “MAC collection” can. Which of these have you checked out… or bought something from? Or maybe, is your favourite item in the world and you wish they would bring back. (This is the way my mother feels about their Cruella De Vil nude lipstick). I’d love to hear about it. Happy Shopping!
