Totally Random Friday – July 25th

Hi my pretties! Apologies for the lack of posts last week but I was on holidays with my family. We had a great time, first camping at Falcon Lake Beach and then at a friend’s cabin in Clear Lake.

First of is a brand that needs no introduction: Louboutin. Interestingly enough they are looking at breaking into the beauty market and creating much hype around their new red nail polish. (Picture from Temptalia)

louboutinpolishWow, looking forward to seeing reviews and other makeup products that are sure to be released along with it. At the $50 price point, I won’t be picking up this polish but I know someone else who is super excited about it (you should also check our her homage manicure, it’s pretty amazing).

Little Burgundy is having a massive shoe sale, up to 60% off. Here are the two I’ve been eyeing.

Ciate has released a line of coloured mascaras called Lashlights which look amazing. They are at Sephora for $21 each.

So, if I had a fairy godmother or a genie, one of my wishes would probably be a lifetime supply of Fluevog shoes. I mean, do you blame me?

And lastly but not least(ly?) don’t forget to head over to NailPolishCanada and enter their 200 polishes giveaway. Extra entries on my blog here.

Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #1 – Maybelline The Rocket

So, awhile ago I promised a monthly review on drug store mascaras and by-gonnit, while you won’t get them monthly, I promise 12 reviews on drug store mascaras before Dec 31, 2014!

This first one is Maybelline The Rocket. I was surprised at how many mascaras Maybelline has for sale. And each one comes in several colours and both waterproof and regular. It’s a little daunting. The great thing about these reviews is I can pick one at random and make your shopping trip a little less confusing.

Things I loved about this mascara: It had a funky brush that did amazing at separating and covering each lash. This is definitely a great look for day and can easily be layered for night time.

Things I hated about this mascara: Getting it off! This mascara seemed to not want to budge once it was in place. My routine for getting it off became wipe with makeup remover (generally makeup wipes), then wash my face and then wipe with makeup wipes AGAIN.

Here’s a picture of the leftover mascara on my face after a shower. This became throughly irritating especially when I ran out of makeup wipes and couldn’t replace them for a couple of days (or simply forgot to go to the store to buy them) and had mascara literally stuck to my under-eye area and no way to get it off. Even washing my face again did not help. I thought it was just me but apparently I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Overall, this inability to get the mascara off my face was enough to make me not want to purchase it again. Thumbs down.

What mascara are you using? Any suggestions for mascara reviews you would like to see? Leave me a comment. Happy Shopping!

June Wishlist

The late emergence of summer is bad for retail but good for consumers. Many retailers are having their June sale and blowing out their summer stuff (which to be quite honest, we can just barely wear here in Winnipeg).

My wishlist this month is mostly all about the makeup! As you’ve read, Rebekah and I have been on a no-buy this month and that has been good for us, me especially, forcing me to use what I have instead of moving on to the next pretty thing. It also has me drooling over several products and (not-so) patiently waiting for July 1 so I can run to the store and buy everything on this list! So without further ado, here are the things I’m hot for this month:

1. Lashstash to Go

This set from Sephora contains 5 samples of mascara: Too Faced Cosmetics Better Than Sex Mascara; Lancôme HYPNÔSE DRAMA Mascara; Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara; Blinc Inc. Blinc Mascara; Bare Minerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara in Intense Black; and a voucher for full-size featured mascara for the bargain price of $30. I do have one makeup purchase allowed during the no-buy. This may be it.

2. OPI & Coca-Cola collaboration

At first I was only really eyeing up one or two of the polishes. Then I read reviews at The Polishaholic, Kalyn Lord and Julie from Swatch and Review and now I need them all. NailPolishCanada has the mini set for $26 and it includes minis of Nail Envy and topcoat, which would be perfect for my desk.

3. Sharon Osbourne and Kelly Osbourne collab with MAC

MTY302At first I didn’t really care about this collab  too much but I’ve been eyeing up the Nars Matte Lip Pencils and now that MAC has some, I’ve gotta try them.

4. Indie Polish

Since being introduced to independent polish makers through reading blogs like Chalkboard Nails and Storms and Stars and I have fallen in love with the following:

Botany Plants Lately from Dr. Lacquer. Did you see the flower shaped glitter? Amazing!

Fairy Flurries by Jaded Nail Co. This one changes colour when it gets cold and glows in the dark. Ummm… how fricken amazing is that?!

What are you looking forward to or have on your wishlist? Makeup? Clothing? Something else? Let me know. Happy Shopping!

28 Days of Eyeshadow – Day 1

Here’s today’s look. It’s a simple one that takes less than 5 mins and is one of my favs to do.

Tools and colours used to create this look:

MAC eyeshadow in Shroom (satiny soft beige with shimmer)
MAC 242 brush
MAC eyeshadow in Sketch (burgundy with red shimmer)
MAC 224 brush
MAC Fluidline eyeliner pot in Avenue (black with gold sparkle – limited edition, now sold out)
Provici liner brush
Maybelline Rocket Mascara (first time trying it today, so far pretty good)
Benefit Watt’s Up (one shown above is the travel size which isn’t for sale individually)

I’m headed out tonight so I’m just going to use a couple more products to pump up my look and easily turn it from daytime to nighttime. I’ll post the change and the additional products to create the look tomorrow.

How’s your February so far? Happy Shopping!
