Mascara Review #10 – L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Intenza

Mascara review #10. And I’m pretty sure I’ve said this 10 times: WHO NAMES THESE PRODUCTS??? What a mouthful. So here today, I’m here to talk about the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Intenza mascara. I know  there are two more to go after this but I’m going to ruin the surprise – this is the only L’Oreal mascara that I review in this series. Honestly, I am totally suckered in by cute packaging and bright colours. And L’Oreal is a big dud on both of those. The Voluminous Miss Manga one is pretty cute but I’ve already read/watched several reviews on that one and I didn’t want to be repeating (too much).

On to the pictures:

This one was good. It did what it was supposed to but it didn’t blow my socks off.

It has this cool poison-dart-looking head on the mascara wand. It was neat and gimmicky but as far as I could tell, it didn’t actually make a difference.

So….. ya. Two more mascaras to go and neither really blow my socks off either. I feel like so far, I have a clear first and second place mascaras that I loved during this year and then there’s like 6 that fit squarely into the “Nice” category. Not great but not bad. I was really hoping for more range of Love and Hate but whatever.

I’m sorry that we’re into 2015 and I still have two more mascaras to go. I have no excuses, just a general sense of ennui that is hanging around. I’m trying to beat if off with a big stick so any cheerleading skills you can muster up would be most appreciated.

Anyone else so distracted by my crazy eyebrows that they aren’t even looking at the mascara? Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #9 – Physician’s Formula Organicwear

Ack! It’s December and I still have four mascara reviews to do. Let’s get-ter done!

This week I have the Physician’s Formula Organic wear®100% Natural Origin FakeOut™ Mascara. (Again, who names these?!) I love the hot pink, shiny, curvy tube.

The wand is totally the opposite of the tube (and therefore the opposite of what I expected), short and shaped like a football.

This is a great mascara for everyday wear. It has good coverage and really thickens your eyelashes. It doesn’t add alot of length but still gets the job done. It also didn’t clump no matter how many coats you put on, which was nice. Sometimes I can tend to go overboard putting mascara on and this mascara is totally forgiving of that.

For nighttime, I liked layering this mascara over the CoverGirl Clump Crusher mascara. It gave a look very close to Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. Sorry, I totally forgot to take pictures when I did that and have no desire to put on that much mascara if I’m not going actually going to be leaving the house.

Three more to go! Any last requests as I head out to purchase them? Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #8 – Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara by LashBlast

Last week, I told you how much I hated CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast mascara. And now I’m going to show you a Covergirl mascara I love: Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara by LashBlast.

Wow! This mascara is truly amazing. I seriously can’t get over how much it it lengthens lashes and never clumps. I know you think I’m kidding, but I’m totally serious. And your lashes stay relatively soft all day for putting on something that is designed to harden them.

I actually even wore this mascara all day and then was going out that night, so I just layered more on. And it looked even better. And I didn’t need a lash comb or eyelash curler to make it look more awesome. It just did.

Love, love, love this mascara and HIGHLY recommend it! Unless some L’Oreal mascara blows me away in the next few weeks, this mascara might be my favourite out of the 12. It is that amazing. If you haven’t tried it yet, head to the drugstore now and pick some up! Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #7 – Covergirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara

So, first of all I want to apologize for the lack of posts for the last two weeks. It’s been a crazy time for me personally and professionally and I really needed to take a break.

So, back to business as usual. This week is Mascara Review #7 (are you counting the weeks left? There’s 7.5, not including this one, so you’ll read about a lot of mascara in the next few weeks.) and it’s featuring Covergirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast mascara in Very Black.

The brilliant two-step Bombshell Boost System combines extreme volume with an intensifying top coat for big, sexy bombshell lashes. Step One: Apply the extreme volume basecoat. Step Two: Finish with the intensifying top coat.

I hated this mascara. I wore it three times to do this review and every single time, I didm’t like it.

You can see that it has pretty reasonable length and volume but I just didn’t like it and I really had to nail down the reasons why.

1. Two step mascara means more time to my already busy morning routine. And even with two steps, this mascara seemed pretty comparable to a couple of others that I have. So, Covergirl, just figure out how to get this great volume and length in ONE STEP.

Here is a picture of my lashes with just Step 1:

Not bad, you could probably just stop there and be fine. But, my complaints don’t end there.

2. My lashes were hard all day. Now, they have two to four coats of mascara on them, I don’t expect them to be soft but it was so annoying that I found myself poking at the lashes over the day. And fiddling with your makeup during a meeting is never a good thing. It was almost like they had hairspray on them, you know, that kind of hard.

Overall, I do not recommend this mascara. There are much better, or at the very least equal, products that do the same job and you don’t have to fiddle around with two wands. It also pisses me off that they have obviously placed falsies on Katy Perry in all the ads for this mascara. And yes, I know they do for all mascaras but this one really, really burns for some reasons.

Mascara Review #6 – Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Washable Mascara

Look at this, mascara review #6! Woot woot! This week, I have Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal Washable Mascara in Classic Black. (Who names these mascaras?? I have to go to Maybelline’s website each time to figure out the name because I can’t tell from the actual product itself!)

As you’ll recall, I hated Maybelline’s The Rocket mascara. And as much as I hated that one, I LOVE this one.

From the first time you use it, it does everything exactly the way it’s supposed to. It lengthens, darkens, adds to and plumps up your lashes in a way that I almost didn’t believe I’d bought this at the drug store. For $9, it was competing very well against mascaras I’ve used that are $30 or more.

I highly, highly recommend this one. It lasts all day with no flaking or raccoon eyes and layers well for that va-va-voom-going-out look.

Six more drugstore mascara reviews to go! Any you would like to see? Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #5 – Rimmel ScandalEyes Rockin’ Curves

I promised 12 drugstore mascara reviews in 2014 and so far, I’ve gotten four done: Maybelline The Rocket, Maybelline The Falsies, Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam and Revlon Bold Lacquer. I need to finish 8 more in less than 12 weeks, so I better get on it! On to #5: Rimmel ScandalEyes Rockin’ Curves mascara.

So, when I do mascara reviews, I take a picture with the tube of mascara showing somewhere in the picture. That way if I don’t get a chance to write the review right away or wear different mascaras for a week then I remember which mascara it was.

I usually edit them out of the pictures, mostly so you get a clearer picture of my lashes. When I went through my phone to upload pics to this post, I had taken three different sets of pictures of this mascara and had completely forgotten that I’d done that. And really, that’s the theme of my review. This mascara is nice, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do but it’s completely forgettable.

Rebekah and I were talking and I told her that if you were on vacation and had forgotten your regular mascara and went to the store to replace it for your trip and this one was on sale, I would totally recommend it. Which sounds harsh but it’s not meant to be. It’s just not a memorable mascara. It’s the worker bee of the mascara world.

The wand is kind of neat, with it’s wave to the spoolie part but it’s not an integral part of applying the mascara. It’s just kind of interesting and gimmicky.

So, there you have it, a big, solid “Meh!”. Thumbs…… across?

Any just-okay mascaras in your collection? Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #4 – Rimmel Scandal Eyes Retro Glam

So, I am really on the fence about this mascara. It does a good job of making your lashes look full and not clumpy and yet I feel like it’s got no “oophm” to it.

Not to say I find it boring. Okay, maybe a little boring. I just feel like the packaging and the advertising campaign make it seem super dramatic and… it’s not.

Overall, it’s the perfect workday mascara. Full, dark lashes but not too much. I think it would even work for those days when you’re running late and you just need to slap some mascara and lipgloss on and run out the door. (I did this once with Too Faced Better than Sex mascara and it looked terrible – that one is definitely a night-time with eyeshadow and liner mascara.)

What do you think? Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #3 – Maybelline The Falsies

Look at that. Number 3 mascara review! See! I promised I would have 12 done by the end of the year! lol

I bought the Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Eyes washable mascara on a whim at the end of last summer. It was on sale and my mother had said she had seen a commercial and it looked pretty. Good enough for me!

This mascara is pretty great. It went on full and the application was smooth and easy. I have never been into putting mascara on my lower lashes. Mine are crazy long and it just makes me look like I have spiders on my eyes. Took me awhile to get used to the wand being in the body of the mascara instead of in the lid.

But then I got over it. Hardly a big deal.

I was a bit worried that I would waste half the product as it is split in two for the upper lashes wand and the lower lashes wand. But when I ran out on the upper lashes side, I just turned it over and crammed it into the other side. Worked great.

This mascara came off nicely even though I ran out of makeup remover for awhile and was just using face wash and water to get it off. I don’t remember ever having a problem with it running off of my lashes, even when I was sweating.

It’s rare that I ever use a drugstore mascara until it’s empty. I usually grow bored of it or I don’t like it that much and I switch it up. This one I used completely and actually had to buy another one to complete this review.

Overall, I highly recommend. Easy to use, good product that didn’t clump, excellent value for your money.

Have you used this mascara? Any thoughts? Happy Shopping!

Mascara Review #2 – Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara

Mascara review number two is of the Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara.

So, looking at the intial pictures, it would appear that this mascara is amazing and works great and should be in everyone’s makeup boxes. But really, I think it has a great marketing campaign and that’s about it.

The first few swipes were great, I was sure I was going to love this product and not be able to stop raving about it. But then my lashes started sticking out at weird angles and not looking nice. I grabbed my eyelash curler (which I hardly use) and tried to even them out by curling them. Then I took an old, clean mascara brush and tried to brush them out and that seemed to work, or at least even them. It’s hard to explain but the lashes didn’t want to go where they were supposed to go. And I hardly ever have that problem. Finally I got them looking halfway normal and snapped the pictures you see here. I feel like this is somewhat fraudulent representation because I haven’t used my eyelash curler or a different mascara brush for any of the other reviews. But dammit, I couldn’t go to work with crazy looking eyelashes!

So, anyways… halfway through the day I was fiddling with my eyelashes, which is something I do a lot since I got Lasik and don’t have to wear glasses anymore. And to my dismay, my mascara started to flake off. And because I am a picker (which is why I wear nail polish, to give my nails a chance to grow!), I had to see how much would flake off. Do you see how much is gone between the right eye vs the left eye?

Yikes. That’s a big difference. And I had seriously only put it on about six hours earlier.

Then I went to bootcamp and when I got home I realized most of my mascara was underneath my eyes. Not cool.

It came off easy enough with makeup wipes which makes sense cuz there was hardly any left on my lashes at all.

Overall, I think this mascara layers well and is good for adding one last coat before heading out for a (short) night on the town but crappy for all day when you need it to last. Don’t waste your money. Happy Shopping!
