Spring 2016 Forecast

“Oh… the weather outside is frightful… but the fire is so delightful….” Oh sorry, was I singing Christmas carols? It’s been freaking cold and snowy here lately and even tho the groundhog predicted an early spring, the snowbank outside my house says it’ll be awhile before we can put away our winter stuff.

Oh well, ever the optimist that spring will arrive, I have put together a list of items that I’m sure will be on your “to-buy” list:

I am totally loving this romantic top mixed with a distressed denim skirt. Both pieces would be a great investment for a spring wardrobe.

Polka-dot top and boyfriend jeans: perfect combo!

Floral + kimono = yes please!

More florals, pastels and white. Perfect for work, brunch and all occasions in between!

And what goes better with florals and denim than a new vegan purse from Matt and Nat in a punchy-pastel colour? I seriously want them all!

So, to recap: still boyfriend jeans, more lace, pastels and florals… this looks like a season where I will want to buy EVERYTHING! lol

What pieces are you looking forward to for spring? Happy Shopping!

Fashion Friday – Oct 16th

Hey folks, can you believe the weather? What a gorgeous week in October! At this rate, we will definitely still be snow free by Halloween, which is always my cut-off for calling it a beautiful fall.

I definitely took advantage of this fair weather with my Fashion Friday post although the wind blew my hair and blazer all over the place, as you can see! I’m also very pleased that this week’s post includes three items bought at locally-owned stores. As I get older, supporting entrepreneurs and shopping local has become more and more important to me. I also love showcasing the amazing shopping we have right here in Winnipeg.

Blazer: Louise Bourgeois Black Label from The Style Bar

Blouse: Saie from The Style Bar

Jeans: Henry and Belle from October Boutique

Boots: Clarks

Necklace: Chapters (no longer available)

As you can see from the last few Fashion Friday posts, I mix and match items in my closet to come up with new combinations. I feel one great new piece can change up your wardrobe so you don’t need to buy a whole new closet each season. That’s how I feel about the blouse from The Style Bar. I love the muted floral pattern in neutral colours and the back is so fun with it’s peek-a-boo opening and large bow. It’s my favourite shirt for this season!

As my public service announcement, I urge you to get out and vote on Monday. So many people (especially young people) don’t vote and it is so important for everyone to exercise their democratic right to pick the government that leads our great nation. If you feel you don’t know who to vote for, educate yourself. Head over to Elections Canada and input your postal code. The website will tell you which candidates are running in your area. Google them and the leaders of the parties and see which platform aligns with your views on how you would like to see Canada progress as a country. Then, on Oct 19th, mark an ‘X’ next to your choice on the ballot. I promise, it feels pretty great!

Fashion Friday – Sept 18

Another week has flown by and while I’ve been busy planning my daughter’s third birthday party, I did manage to coerce my lovely friend, Sarah, into taking more photos for another edition of Fashion Friday. So with no further ado….

Jeans: Henry and Belle from October Boutique

T-shirt: Joe Fresh

Top 5 Items You Need for Spring 2015 Now

“What do I buy to update my wardrobe for spring?” my best friend pleaded with me to tell her over text the other night. “It’s not easy, you know.” Ya, I do know. So here’s five things to make it easier.

REITMANS The Faux Leather Moto Jacket $85, reitmans.ca

1. Pastel pleather jacket – I can’t imagine this trend being around forever but I love it so much I will definitely indulge. Don’t bother on buying leather, it’s unlikely this is an item you will be keeping for your daughter to wear when it’s vintage. Just buy it and rock it all of 2015!

Joefreshbfjeans2. boyfriend jeans: these make a good contrast beside the florals and pastels that are on trend for this season. Don’t forget to cuff them and wear them with your favourite heels.

JOE FRESH Distressed Boyfriend Jean, $49 joefresh.ca

H&M Denim Jacket, $30 hm.com/ca

3. denim jacket: more denim is on point this season and can be worn with just about anything from dressing down a beautiful summer dresses to pairing with any of the “festival look” items available this season.

GUESS Floral Logo Tank Top, $49 thebay.com

4. floral top: I know I did two posts on this already (here and here) but I love florals so much I could talk about them forever. Just buy some already!

VINCE CAMUTO Vamelia Dress Mule, $175 thebay.com

5. The Mule is everywhere this season. Pick your poison (dressy, heeled, flat, pointed-toe, casual or toe-less) and rock ’em with everything you own.

Easy-peasy. Okay, so it wasn’t but hopefully this will get your started on ways to update your wardrobe for Spring 2015. Which one is your favourite? Happy Shopping!

Totally Random Friday – Jan 9th

Hi! Did you miss me? I missed you. Had a great Christmas but now on the other side, it really hits me how truly crazy the season is. Shopping, wrapping, preparing food, remembering other people you should have added to your list, shopping again, wrapping more, eating food, shopping again, even more wrapping and attending parties. So much fun but I’m glad it’s only once per year!

January is one of my favourite months since it’s my birthday month! I am definitely one of those people who celebrate their birthdays for about a week or so. This year, I am super excited because my husband and I are headed (with my SIL and her husband) to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!! I am so pumped! It’s supposedly to celebrate my husband’s birthday (he’s turning 35 and never been on a hot vacation) but we leave the day after my birthday so…. it’s really my our birthday present. Well, on to the randomness!

1. David’s Tea has launched a new line for the new year and I’m really excited to try a bunch of the flavours.

I’m all about black teas (except Earl Grey – bleh!) and fruity teas so this collection definitely speaks to me.

2. Courtney from La Belle Sirene shared on her Instagram that Target is having a spring collab with Lilly Pulitzer.

Screen Shot 2015-01-07 at 9.31.42 PM

Lilly Pulitzer founded her namesake line in sunny Palm Beach, Fla., in 1959, introducing a new genre of fashion – American resort wear – that to this day celebrates bold individuality and encourages women everywhere to embrace colour and fearlessness in every area of their lives.

Lilly Pulitzer for Target features 15 lively and modern prints inspired by archival artwork across 250 items, including apparel, shoes and accessories for women and girls, home goods and cosmetics. The collection ranges in price from $2-$150, and will be available exclusively at all Target stores in the U.S. and Canada beginning April 19.

Looking forward to the sneak peeks of what I’m sure will be a very interesting collection!

3. Banana Republic has come out with a new line of denim for 2015:

The four different fits come in a variety of washes and colours with the Skinny Ankle, Skinny and Legging styles in mid-rise and the Boyfriend style in low-rise. They range in price from $110 – 124. I’ll probably try these on next time I’m in BR but they don’t seem earth shattering enough for me to run-down-there-this-instance. I’ll let you know what I think.

4. And finally, I want to leave you with some pics from my Instagram (in case you don’t follow me)

Mixing and matching patterns

I got a request to do a post on mixing and matching patterns. I can see how that would be pretty daunting. What’s the line between chic and ick?

I think the best way to wear patterns this season is a simple, three-pronged approach: pattern, colour (contrasting or matching, depending on your level of comfort) and a neutral.

Here I’ve done a polka dot blouse (pattern) with green denim (colour) and a black jacket (neutral).

Here’s one from last summer where I did a striped t-shirt (pattern) with pink denim (colour) and a denim jacket (neutral).

If you are more daring and want to mix it up, mix a bold pattern and a more subtle one. And they should have something in common. Maybe a colour or a texture. Unfortunately it’s not an exact science.

This dress from Peter Pilotto for Target is a good example of mixing patterns.

This outfit from Banana Republic is a great example of mixing greens and textures.

Or keep one pattern in your clothing and add another in your accessories.

Here I’ve done Sarah Stevenson for Target jacket with black t-shirt and pants but mixed in some lace booties.

Whichever way you choose to mix, whether daring or subtle, be confident about your choices! Confidence in what you are wearing will make people stop and stare (in a good way). Any questions? Email me at tiffany@tlcshopping.ca or leave me a comment.
