So, Day 1 of my juice cleanse. My husband was actually the one that picked up a lot of the fruit and veggies yesterday so he was super keen on seeing my first juice that morning. (He also thought that all the fruit and veggies went into one juice, so silly).
So, I got up and boiled some water and added some lemon. Uh, yuck! Apparently I really don’t like hot water and lemon. I sipped at it until it was cool enough to drink from a straw and sucked the rest down that way.
Next I made my morning juice: 3 carrots, 2 apples (I used Gala) and a one-inch piece of ginger. It was pretty tasty. Even my husband and daughter tried some and liked it. At 10, I had my Mean Green Juice. It definitely wasn’t my favourite. Celery is not my favourite flavour and it was predominant in this juice.
At noon, I made the gazpacho juice. This is the one I had been dreading since I read about this. I don’t like tomatoes. When I was a kid, I wouldn’t eat them at all. In the last couple of years, I’ve been eating them occasionally, in salads, on burgers, that sort of thing. But I still don’t really like them. So it’ll be no shock to you when I say I didn’t like this juice either. Oh well, I drank it anyways.
I needed some help getting through this juice. So I rewatched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, Joe Cross’ documentary about his 60 day juicing journey. I mean, if he can do 60 days, I can do three, right? I drank the juice and then went for a nap.
I slept for a couple of hours, so I missed the planned time of 3 pm of the afternoon snack juice. This one has oranges, more cucumber and Swiss chard. I figured this one would be better because it had all the oranges in it. I was wrong. I didn’t like this one either.
Now I’m getting pretty discouraged. I can’t imagine drinking one more juice nevermind two more days of juices. By the time my husband has gotten home from work, I’ve decided I’m done. I’m eating solid food for supper. This has been much harder than I anticipated. But I am going to try all the juices. So I make the last juice and drink it with dinner. It wasn’t too bad but not my favourite either.
So I didn’t continue with the next two days of juicing. I’m glad I tried it even though it’s not for me. It did make eating clean the next day much, much easier. I’m going to look into it more and maybe find some recipes that fit in better with foods I like. My husband enjoyed the juice but isn’t interested in doing the cleanse. I think we’ll make juicing part of our regular diet but not exclusive.
