Ole Henriksen Power Peel Pro-Strength Microdermabrasion/AHA Peel System Review

Hey folks, sorry for the lack of action around here lately. EVERYONE has been sick at my house with some cold or another plus we ALL got PINKEYE! UGH! I am the last one to have it and it really can’t go away fast enough.

Anyways, last weekend was the perfect weekend to hibernate and rejuvenate. I took some time on Sunday night to do a face mask and hide hang out in the bathtub.

The face mask was actually a peel that I had received in my last Sephora order. It was a promo for when you made a $25 purchase, you received three full Ole Henriksen POWER Peel™ PRO-strength Microdermabrasion/AHA Peel systems for free! Well, you know how much I love free stuff. Obviously, I was in!

A popular treatment at Ole Henriksen’s skin clinic, this microdermabrasion and acid peel system dramatically retexturizes to visibly reduce fine lines, smooth skin texture, even skintone, diminish discoloration, and minimizes pores for instant renewed youthful radiance in three simple steps.

IMG_8319

The face mask/peel comes in a slim envelope with pouches clearly marked with 1, 2 and 3, outlining the multiple steps.

IMG_0248

The first step is an almond polish. It’s fairly gritty and you rub it all over your face for 2-3 minutes.

IMG_0249

Here you can see the large almond seeds in the cleanser.

IMG_0250

And here is the scrub on my face.

Rinse that off and on to Step 2:

IMG_0252

The lemon strip step definitely tingled, especially where I had rubbed the almond scrub around my nose.

IMG_0253

This was more of a clear gel-like substance. It smelled citrus-y but not overpowering.

IMG_0257

This is with the lemon peel on. You can see my face is kind of red from the almond scrub. This step is left alone for 2 minutes and then you add Step 3.

IMG_0258

Step 3: the chamomile mask is applied directly on top of Step 2: lemon peel.

IMG_0259

This looks exactly the way you think the last step of a mask would look: like heavy lotion.

IMG_0260

I slathered every last particle of this step on to my face. It’s still burning a bit at this point… but it stopped about 5 minutes later and was very relaxing after that. That’s when I climbed in the bath.

The last step is supposed to linger for about 15 minutes and then you can rinse your face.

I forgot to take after pictures but I remember my skin feeling somewhat tight, so I did layer on some Julep What Your Skin Needs before bed to help with moisture, which is extra important during the drying winter. Overall, I enjoyed this product. I have two more mask/treatments left and I will probably let my mom try one and see what she thinks.

Have you tried this product? What’s your favourite face mask/peel? Happy Shopping!

Winter Luxe Box 2015

Well, here we are in the middle of January and I’m going to talk about a box I got…. almost six weeks ago. On the bright side, it’s a quarterly box so the next one won’t show up for another six weeks.

Without any further ado, here is the Winter Luxe Box from Loose Button. This was shipped on Nov 30th and arrived the first week in December. And like every other time, I think that this will be the last one, that I’m going to cancel after this box. And every time, after I open the box, I’m pleasantly surprised at the interesting things sent to me. This time was no exception.

Three full-sized products and four samples – awesome!

Teez Trend Cosmetics Read My Lips Lipstick in Roulette Red, 2 g, $28.94

This long-lasting lipstick combines the power of highly-pigmented coverage and a unique satin, matte finish. The lipstick’s smooth, ultra creamy texture and added coconut oil extract nourishes and hydrates the lips, with colour that lasts for up to 8 hours.

IMG_8088

IMG_8111

Swatches of Roulette Red and the Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen.

I haven’t really used this lipstick too much. It’s a smidge too brown for my liking and I seem to be on a nude lip kick right now.

Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen, 10 mL, $19

This liner is a staple product for every makeup lover, this felt tipped pen makes it impeccably easy to create flawless eye lines of any variety. Applies smoothly, dries quickly, and lasts all day (or night) long.

IMG_8086

IMG_8110

This has becoming my go-to, favourite liner. I like that it’s got a solid, felt-tipped pen-type applicator which makes lining my eyes super easy and fast. I also get perfect lines, everytime.

The FaceShop Character Mask, $4

Wash face. Pull out the mask and carefully place it on the face. Remove after 10-15 minutes and tap lightly to absorb the remaining essence into the skin.

IMG_8080

While this worked really well, I looked absolutely ridiculous while wearing it. Even more ridiculous than regular paper masks look. I can’t imagine anyone who would like to look like a barnyard animal while they did their beauty routine. Highly unlikely I will buy this in the future.

Benefit Cosmetics, they’re real tinted primer, 3g, value $10.33

Dramatically boost length and separation with a high performing gel formula, which is water-resistant, and keep the lashes in great condition with the provitamin B5.

IMG_8084

IMG_8117

I don’t really understand this product. It’s like brown mascara… to go under other mascara, right? I wore it one day just to try it (and of course, forgot to take pictures) and it had a nice, light brown tint to it that gave me a natural, I-woke-up-like-this look. I’m still grasping the point to this though. One day I will wear it under the other mascara and let you know if it makes a big difference.

Benefit Cosmetics, roller lash mascara, 3g, value $10.33

It’s a roller for lashes! The eye-opening Hook ‘n’ Roll brush grabs, separates, lifts and curls… which the instant curve-setting formula holds for 12 hours. Gently wiggle the wand from base of lashes to tip. Repeat across your lash line, making sure to catch every lash.

IMG_8115 IMG_8123

I had bought into the hype about this and was wanting to love it. And while it’s nice, I don’t think it’s all that. I’ll use up the sample but I prolly won’t buy it in the future.

Benefit Cosmetics, they’re real! mascara, 3g, value $10.33

Benefit’s #1 nascar lifts, curls and lengthens for lashes beyond belief! Jet Black, glossy and long wearing.

IMG_8116

I appreciate this mascara way more than RollerLash. I especially love the little porcupine spikes at the edge helping to get all the smaller  lashes at either end of my eye – as long I don’t poke myself. lol. I know this sample shows up in all the boxes and is easier to get than just about any other sample but I still enjoyed receiving it and count it as a win.

Benefit Cosmetics, they’re real! remover, 3g, value $1.38

Dip a clean cotton swab in they’re real! remover to instantly fix any eye makeup mistakes.

Ever since I started using Julep’s Bare Faced Oil, I haven’t felt the need to use eye makeup remover. However, this remover by Benefit helped me out of a few tough spots this week when I didn’t want to rub oil all over my eye and either start my makeup over again or re-wash my face. I think this will go on my list to purchase in the future.

So, there you have it, another Luxe Box. The value of products was $84.31 and while the value of the Benefit deluxe samples are high, I used the cost of full sized products to find the value of the samples so they should be fairly accurate. I paid $29 (including taxes) so the quality of the box is still there for me. I’m also please that despite the decline in the Canadian dollar, there has not been a decline in products/value for this box.

Thoughts? I’d love to hear them. Happy Shopping!

Video: Jamberry nail wrap application and Jamberry special sale

Hey folks! It seems I am unable to get a post up on Monday, even when the post totally relates to manicures. lol Let me blame the busyness of work and the federal election.

Today I’m excited to share another video with you about my tips and tricks for applying Jamberry nail wraps to help you get the most out of your manicure.

A couple of oopsies happened while i was taping. One, my husband comes in at some point and says good night. And the second is I say you can get four manicures out of one package of nails wraps. That is incorrect, I meant two, you can get two manicures out of one package of nail wraps.

I did mention in the video that I would link to the pattern of nail wraps I’m using but unfortunately they must’ve been seasonal stock as I can’t find them on the website.

I also have a special promotion for you. My friend Tara, who is a Jamberry consultant has generously offered a free half sheet of nail wraps with any Jamberry purchase before Monday, November 16th. First of all, click on this link to take you to the TLC Shopping’s Awesome Jamberry Party page. Next, click on the button that says, “Shop for this Party.” From there, fill your cart with all the gorgeous wraps you can handle and check out. Wraps will be mailed to you once you place your order, you don’t need to wait for the party to end. Tara will be mailing your half sheet separately, so watch for a second envelope to come in the mail.

Which wraps are you lusting after? Check out my top picks from the Jamberry Fall 2015 catalogue to help you make up your mind. Happy Shopping!

Note: I did not receive the wraps shown in the video as a promotional item. However, I will get “hostess credit” towards more Jamberry wraps with every purchase through this online party.

Fall Luxe Box 2015

It’s Luxe Box time again! I was considering cancelling this subscription and saving some money but both the products and the value of the box is still great so I think I’m going to continue with it for awhile. Here’s what I received this month:

IMG_1723

Ofra Universal Eyebrow Pencil, 1.13 g, value $13

Water resistant pencil suitable for the most sensitive eye area. It is the perfect solution for your eyebrows and is call Universal Eyebrow Pencil for a reason as it is one colour to suit all skin tones. It is soft enough and will make it easy for you to create a perfect shape.

IMG_1747

IMG_7364

This eyebrow pencil has a great gel-like formula and helps brows stay in place while filling them in. I really like it. That being said, it is a shade or two too dark for me. I think I’ll end up giving it to my mom. I checked their website to see if they sold any more colours. They don’t…  Anyways, while this product didn’t work out for me, I would be willing to try more of their makeup products in future.

So Susan Rose Quartet Lip and Cheek Cream, 4 g, value $12

A richly-pigmented, hydrating lip and cheek pomade that delivers 12 hours of continuous wear with dryness, creasing or smudging.

I’ve gotten other So Susan products that I totally love but I have a hard time believing I am going to use this. The brush looks cheesy, the colours look over-saturated and nothing like anything I would put on my cheeks. My lips are still super dry and not accepting anything except Vaseline and Blistex so I can’t try them out on there. This is going in my give away pile.

Eyeko Hydrogel Eye Patch,  3g, value $4.50

Our botanically infused eye patches instantly brighten and revive eyes for a wide-awake look. Concentrated anti-stress and anti-fatigue ingredients treat the delicate eye area visibly diminishing dark shadows and puffiness leaving skin hydrated and firm.

IMG_1745

IMG_7359

My daughter laughed her head off when she saw me walking around the house like this. While I haven’t really noticed any difference in the moisture in my under eye area, this was kind of fun. This also might be a great product for when you have a fever or a hangover.

OSIS+ Session Label Dust It Flex Fragranced Mattifying Powder, 10g, value $25

The first mattifying frangranced powder for smashing texture and incredible root volume with lava rock for flexible hold and grip that lasts non-stop.

IMG_1733

I love dry shampoo. I’ve probably mentioned that once or six times. I got this one in my Flare box last year and loved it. I am excited to get it again.

Delectable Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream, 60 mL, value $7

This miracle material hand cream is packed frill of goodness with shea butter, coconut oil and aloe vera, to smooth, nourish and rejuvenate hands and cuticles. Rich and never greasy, this beautiful blend leaves your hands super smooth, superbly soft and perfectly pretty.

IMG_1751

This hand lotion was greasy when I initially put it on. But it absorbed quickly and then my hands were soft for awhile after. The smell is nice and the sample is a half decent size. I think I will take this to work for use at my desk.

pur~delicate gentle soy milk cleanser and makeup remover, 30 mL, value $6.55

A mild soap-free, on-foaming cleanser that respects the delicate nature of your skin. Leaves your face touchable and silky soft, without a trace of impurity.

IMG_1748

I used this to take off my makeup and it was fine. I mean, it did what is was supposed to do but not in a way that made me excited about it. I can’t see myself purchasing this again.

Ciate London Nail Lacquer in Couture Noir, 13.5 mL, value $15

The formula is amazingly pigmented, long lasting and available in a range of finishes whilst formulated to be easy to apply.

IMG_1726

Ciate Couture Noir over Julep Cally

I haven’t every tried Ciate before but I was very impressed with the shine in this glitter topper. It didn’t really need a coat of Seche Vite but I needed the manicure to last three days for sure, so I added one anyways. The price tag for Ciate polish is a little steep but I will probably pick up another colour in the future.

Not on the card but also included was the Tresemme Perfectly Undone Wave Creation Sea Foam. I don’t have curly hair anymore but I will try this when I’ve left my hair to dry overnight and I have major bedhead.

This quarter’s box had five full sized products and three samples and was worth $85. If you are thinking about signing up for Luxe Box, I’d love if you would use my referral link here. Try any of these products? Which is your favourite? Happy Shopping!

Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub Review

If you only have time to read the first paragraph of this post, I can boil down this review into two words: AH-MAZING!

IMG_7004.JPG

I love a good face scrub. Not the pansy ones with microbeads made for daily exfoliation. A hard core scrub with warnings on the label about using it more than a couple of times per week! So the Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub is exactly what I was looking for.

IMG_7003.JPG

According to Sephora’s website:

What it is:
Nothing heightens the skin’s natural metabolic processes better than this densely textured, smooth gliding, and terrifically energizing face scrub. Activated with water, it foams up to scour away dead, tired skin cells, while literally vacuuming up impurities. Excellent for all skin types.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

They didn’t have a sampler open at Sephora when I went to buy the scrub. I was concerned about not liking it but the sales girl had me smell some other Ole Henriksen products, assuring me it was mildly scented. She was wrong. So wrong. It smells (wonderfully) of cherries or cherry blossoms. The scent is not overwhelming but calling it a mild scent is optimistic at best. Luckily, I love the scent so that was not an issue for me.

IMG_7005.JPG

At the size of 1.7oz, this container seems small but you only need a nickel size dollop to generously cover your face. At this rate, and the fact that I only use it once per week, this scrub is likely to last me forever. Or at least until I’m sick of it and want to try something else.

IMG_7007.JPG

I probably spend 1 – 3 minutes rubbing it all over my face and then a couple of minutes rinsing it off. Afterwards, my skin feels amazingly butter-smooth. I dry it off and layer Biotherm AquaSource Deep Serum over it to help lock in moisture.

IMG_7011.JPG

Yes, my skin is a tiny bit red after using this but since I moisturize well and only exfoliate before bedtime, my skin has a chance to breathe afterwards and I haven’t had an problems.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub for anyone wanting a deep, weekly exfoliation.

What are your favourite skin products? Happy Shopping!

Sephora Favorites: Draw the Line Review

I just received my VIB membership earlier this month from Sephora and with it comes a 10% off coupon. You know me and coupons… that baby was burning a hole in my pocket so I headed to Sephora yesterday and picked up the Sephora Favorites: Draw the Line eyeliner sampler and Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub (which is amazing – review to come soon!).

IMG_6947.JPG

I recently ran out of liquid eyeliner and while pencils are ok, they are not my favourite. With this package, I could try out two new liquid eyeliners and four pencils, all of which I’ve never tried before but heard good things about.

IMG_6949.JPG

Sephora’s website says:

What it is:
An essential, multi-branded eyeliner kit with six coveted liners.

What it does:
Flick, layer, sweep, or smudge on liner looks with this set’s liquid or pencil formulas. This must-have eyeliner features six eyeliners—including three full-size liners—for a number of eye looks. This eyeliner set lets you explore a selection of Sephora’s bestselling brands and formulas, including Kat Von D’s Deluxe Tattoo liner in Trooper, a liquid black liner with a brush allows for precise pigmented application; a deluxe Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear in Black; a full-size Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Sumatra; a full-size stila smudgestick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray; a full-size of tarte’s lights, camera lashes precision longwear eyeliner in Black and a deluxe, 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Vice.

IMG_6954.JPGSo, the swatches from L-R are: Stila Cosmetics Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray; Tarte lights, camera lashes precision longwear eyeliner in Black; Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper; Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear in Black Lace; Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Vice; and Smashbox Cosmetics Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Sumatra.

All of the liners went on very smoothly and came off easily with Julep Bare Face cleansing oil (my makeup remover of choice). I was surprised, however, at the grayness of the Kat Von D liner (third from the left). I had always gotten the impression that this one was the best and the blackest and yet it seemed a little washed out when swatched next to the others. It did seem to have the best control out of all of them and as you can see, it was the thinnest line. I loved the tarte liner immediately. It was extremely black and the tip was flick-y and I could tell it would make an amazing cat-eye.

IMG_6961.JPG
Tarte liner

Sephora quotes the box as a value of $106. I did the math (cuz I’m a geek like that) and came up with $107.50, so I’m glad that the value isn’t too far off. If you were to buy each of these liners in full size, it would be $132 plus taxes, so even though only three of the products are full size, the others are a decent size. At $36, I think this is an amazing value and am super glad I picked this up.

Have you tried any of these liners? I’d love to hear about your experience. Happy Shopping!

Summer Luxe Box 2015

So apparently my Spring Luxe Box was so underwhelming that I didn’t even talk about it on my blog at all. It actually didn’t occur to me that I hadn’t used or photographed any of the products until my Summer Luxe Box turned up. Oops! Oh well.

Spring Luxe Box
Spring Luxe Box

Well, now looking at it again, I did love the Buxom Weightless Foundation and I do use the Eyeko Brow Gel on the weekends when I don’t want to use my usual Dipbrow.

Anyways, the Summer Luxe Box was much more exciting. I got 7 products with a good range of hair, makeup, skin and nail products.

IMG_1659

Bare Minerals Lash Domination mascara, 1.5 mL, value $3.13

A do-it-all mascara for larger-than-life lashes. This volumizing, lengthening, thickening, separating, and long-wearing mascara is designed to curve around lashes and coat from all angles with intense black colour.

IMG_1642

First up is the BareMinerals Lash Domination mascara. I already know I love this mascara, having gotten it in the Sephora lash sampler from last summer. What came as a shock was the tiny tube it came in. 1.5mL?? It’s about the same size as my pinky finger. It probably cost more to produce than what I’ve figured out it’s worth is above. Speaking of that, I used the cost from Sephora for a full size instead of the price on the Luxe Box card, $23 vs. $18. Anyways, I will throw this in my purse for some emergency mascara touch-ups.

Here’s a photo of me using the deluxe sample of Lash Domination from last summer.

essie Nail Lacquer, 13.5 mL, value ~$10

After applying an essie base coat, apply 2-3 thin coats of colour, waiting 2 min. between each coat. Finish with ‘good to go’ topcoat.

IMG_1657

This is a pretty coral-y pink shade that I would never buy but I will wear. Win-win. Name of shade: Cute as a button (haha, Luxe Box, that’s a good one)

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Tinted Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 50, 3 mL, value $2.01

Advanced 100% Mineral sunscreen + antioxidant protection in revolutionary ultra-light texture, slightly tinted for a healthy glow.

So, I knew 3mL wasn’t a lot. It’s about enough for one application…. which has left me feeling ambiguous about the product. First of all, I liked the tinted aspect. It covered up my dark circles and the couple of zits I have and evened out my skin tone. The fact that it’s tinted did kinda make me feel like I should be applying with a brush instead of my fingers but whatever. It went on smoothly and seemed to sink in right away. I have been out in the sun and my face doesn’t appear to have burnt, so it’s doing it’s job there. I just wish there was more. Maybe there are other effects that would be more noticeable if only I could’ve tried it for a week.

Batiste Original Dry Shampoo, 50 mL, $5

Batiste Dry Shampoo is your secret weapon for fresh looking and feeling hair anytime, anywhere.

I love dry shampoo. I’ve tried about 15 kinds looking for the perfect one. (This is the perfect one but it is perpetually sold out, bummer). I started using this product this week and have already emptied the container. Apparently there’s only about 3 uses in this size. It works well, I mean, it gets rid of oily hair but overall this is a dud product. It is stinky and it turned my hair white when applied. Not a fan, will never be buying again.

Fruits & Passion Cucumber Face Mask, $2.50

This refreshing Face Mask contains an essence specially formulated to improve the appearance of your skin. Your skin is moisturized, softened and more luminous.

IMG_1647

This is going with my other products for an at-home-spa day. You know, a day that I have some time to myself, like never.

Medusa’s Makeup Eyeshadow in Xtinct, 2g, $8

Highly pigmented mineral pressed powder with micro sparkles. For best results, apply “Stick It” primer and then apply with a brush.

I was not thrilled with this product. I thought it would be this lovely bright purple with sparkles. And it is, just not on it’s own. I used Smashbox Photo Finish 24 Hour Shadow Primer and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk and then it finally looked sort of the way I wanted it to. Not a great product.

IMG_6661.JPG

Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-aging + Intensive Repair Eye Serum, 3mL, $31

Help tighten, firm and smooth the appearance of visible aging signs around your eyes with Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-aging + Intensive Repair Eye Serum. Pair this with PREVAGE Anti-aging + Intensive Repair Daily Serum for face to improved texture and ton and achieve younger-looking skin.

IMG_1654

Wow, this little tube is $30! I’m only in my 30s and super happy with my skin care regime with Julep’s Bare Face oil and Biotherm’s AquaSource Deep Serum. This sample will probably go to my mom. It seems more than what I would need at my age. I also don’t need to get hooked on $155 eye cream just yet.

So, that was my box this quarter. Overall I liked the products and felt it was a good mix. Fairly good value too considering I pay $26+taxes and the items total $61.64. This is the first box since Topbox took over Luxe Box/Loose Button and they have done a great job. My only (small) complaint was that they included this card to tell me all about my products, which didn’t allow me to cut and paste all the descriptions, which is what I normally do instead of typing them out. This is the extra mile I go for you guys. 😉

What did you think of the box? Did you get one? Or did this one make you want to sign up to receive the fall box? Check Luxe Box’s Instagram and/or Facebook to see the fall product leaks. Happy Shopping!

S’well Water Bottles

Hey folks, I’m back. Sorry about the long absence. I took a class this spring and between that and work and mom/wife/daughter duties, May and June flew by with no blogging. I did get an A+ in the class, so I hope that’s some consolation for you, knowing I was still working hard even though I was not blogging. Anyways, I’m glad to be back and I have some great ideas for posts and looking forward to blogging on a more regular schedule.

Without further ado, I would like to talk about S’well bottles today.

S’well is an American company that makes high grade stainless-steel, vacuum-sealed bottles for water, coffee, tea or whatever. According to their website:

S’well bottles are beautifully crafted composed of non-leaching and non-toxic 18/8 stainless steel, that keeps your drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12, while giving back to those in need. S’well is a charitable community member and proud partner of charitable organizations. As the premier fashionable and reusable water bottle, we have found that our customers love these bottles worldwide. S’well is currently sold in 35 countries worldwide in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean Islands, South America, the Middle East, and throughout Asia.

I got introduced to S’well bottles by The Style Bar in Osborne Village. Regan, the owner, gushed about the bottles when they came in and convinced me I needed to have one.

IMG_6630.JPG

Of course I have a bright pink one, what other colour would I have chosen??

I do think the bottle is as good as they say. I have been on the search for the perfect water bottle for most of my adult life and I feel this one is the closest. I have the 9oz size and I like the physical size as it fits easily in my purse or gym bag and is light when I am running around with it at bootcamp. That being said, I drink more than 9oz of water in any one sitting so I feel a larger one would be more useful.

IMG_6632.JPG

And so far, when I have put the lid on properly, I have not had any leaks. It’s been upside down in my car, in my gym bag, it’s fallen out of my stroller… still leak-proof. I’ve had it a couple of months now (maybe four, I can’t remember exactly) and haven’t had any problems.

Now, the only downside I can find is the price. $30+ for a water bottle is pretty pricey in my opinion. Now that I’ve seen the excellent quality, this is definitely is a case of you get what you pay for.

IMG_6633.JPG

Verdict: I really love mine. I’m glad I bought it but would really think hard before purchasing a second in another size just to have around.

Another option: buy it as a gift. Your friend/SO/parent/family member will be thrilled at the amazing bottle they got and you can break out of the rut of buying them a bottle of wine, again.
